I travelled out of Thailand just in time, having arrived in the UK today, otherwise I’d have had to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days
I want to know what it's like flying for many hours wearing a mask.

I think I would go insane, or take trips to the loo every 30 minutes to splash water on my face and breathe normally.
During a meal is it mask up/down constantly, or do they allow you to remove it when eating?

Try 12 hours on a rig floor in 30deg+ heat..
Masks can be removed when you eat Pete.

Enjoy you time in UK

Back to news ...
UK govt adds Thailand to Covid travel 'red list'
The British government on Monday will add Thailand and Montenegro to its travel "red list", with foreigners banned from travelling to England from those countries, and nationals required to quarantine.
"Thailand and Montenegro will be added to the red list from 4 am on Monday 30 August 2021," reflecting the increased coronavirus case rates in those countries, the Department for Transport said.
British and Irish nationals and those living in the United Kingdom are allowed to travel from red list countries, but must quarantine in a hotel for 10 days on arrival.
Thailand will move to the red category as low vaccination levels leave Asia vulnerable to new coronavirus variants, along with Montenegro.
The government added Switzerland, Denmark and Canada to the green list, it added.
Travellers from those destinations will now not have to quarantine, regardless of vaccination status.

Surprised it took this long ...

If I can answer the two questions from Pete and Joelle together - I got the test done at HHH, test taken at 9.00 am on Tuesday morning and results back Wednesday morning. Not the most pleasant experience but the discomfort was short lived - very professional service at a cost of 3655 Baht.
Traveling through the airport and on the plane required 100% wearing of a mask (changed 3 times) other than for photos being taken and when you eat. I kept mine down all the time while I was eating and nobody ever said anything. I don’t know whether it was colder than normal on the planes, but it was very cold requiring a blanket throughout the flight and this helped enormously in reducing the discomfort, to the extent that I didn’t find it too unpleasant.
Clearing UK immigration took about 1.1/2 hours (wearing a mask, but no social distancing) then I had the misfortune of my bag getting “lost” at Heathrow - I’m not even sure the full details, but suffice to say it took nearly 1.1/2 hours to retrieve it and only then with the fantastic help of a man who was not even an employee of the airline (they had all left the desk area by the time I had got through immigration). Without this mans assistance I would never have got my bag - I’ve never seen such a mess at baggage collection area - there must have been hundreds of suitcases in total at the 12 conveyor belt areas at the terminal. Just to add insult to injury, the journey to my 10 day isolation address was around the M25 motorway and part way home, there was a big accident ahead of us resulting in all 4 lanes coming to a complete standstill where we waited for the emergency services to deal with the injured people and clear the scene about 1 hour later. In all, my journey from home to home was 30 hours - definitely the most difficult journey I have ever taken!! (Apologies for the rant too).

As I was seriously thinking about a UK visit in October, I was intending to use you as a sounding board, Dannie Boy.
Luckily nothing's booked and I'll make a decision over the weekend after speaking to my father.
The chances are that you won't have to answer any of my stupid questions!!

Thailand back on the red list, so if nothing changes before then, you'll need to quarantine on arrival to UK.
Effective; 0400 (0300 GMT) on Monday 30 Aug

Thailand has been added to the travel red list for England. This means those arriving from Thailand, including returning #PhuketSandbox tourists, will have to isolate at a quarantine facility for 10 days. The changes start at 4am on 30 August
“The high rates combined with lower levels of published genomic surveillance than other countries means that an outbreak of a new variant or existing variants of concern (VOC) or variants under investigation (VUI) cannot be easily identified before it is imported and seeded across the UK.”
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/red-amber-a ... list-rules #Thailand
Red list rules
What you must do if you have been in a country or territory on the red list in the 10 days before you arrive in England.
You must follow these rules even if you have been fully vaccinated.
If you have been in a country or territory on the red list in the last 10 days you will only be allowed to enter the UK if you are a British or Irish National, or you have residence rights in the UK.
There is separate guidance on what you need to do if you are travelling abroad from England.

Being put on the red list makes it much more expensive for anybody to travel to the UK and undergo the mandatory 10 days hotel accommodation, so many people will now not bother. No doubt that Thailand will eventually go back to Amber, but maybe not by October so you’ll either have to delay your travel plans, or cancel altogether? I’m very fortunate that I travelled just in time before the change.

My girlfriend managed to get a flight booked for tomorrow but wasn't able to book the connecting flight to Aberdeen. She has had to book through to Edinburgh. Tomorrow is the last day to fly to make the 04:00 deadline on arrival in the U.K. That's one days notice!!!
Flight options were around 30,000thb this morning and went up to 50,000thb by the time she was able to book.
Luckily she was able to get her P.C.R. done at H.H.H. first thing this morning.
The irony being Scotland now has one of the highest per-capita rate of new cases in the world....
