Try Singapore if you're looking for Western standards in an Asian setting.
I dont agree with that. I also have to try earn a living but i dont ignore things that i was teached as youngster, and to be honest, i dont need to do it only because i am living with a person of another (still not that much developed compared to european or US) culture IN a country with an completely different culture.
Its a question of education.

Let me explain in words my grandfather used to say when i was not behaving properly (he was a farmer with a lot of animals on his land):

Even though u are living at a farm, u dont need to behave like a pig.
U always have the choice what kind of behave u choose for yourself.

So i can accept the behave of a pig, cow, donkey, whatever, but i dont need to act like one. (Not missunderstand that, i am not saying that locals are animals)

And i am happy with my attitude and try to teach them to my daughter.
Whether she agrees and accept it or not it will be her choice...

If its too hard written (or mistakable) for this forum i ask the moderation to delete it...

To put in context, blocking some of the sidewalk becomes selfish behaviour if it seriously inconveniences other users.
Not sure that makes them pigs though !! Maybe if they fail to clean up after they finish and leave it covered in old cooking oil I would agree.
As for hygiene of street food vendors because it is freshly cooked at high temperatures the risk of food poisoning is low.
They would quickly go out of business as well if continuing to sell bad food.

New rumour - Satukarn Square

Just to put the pavements issue into context - yes the disrepair - and the high kerbs - can be a hazard. Especially for people with some disabilities, and this has been discussed at length in an earlier thread.
Money for the maintainance of pavements in HH shouldn't be a problem. It is after all the Kings' Town, and as such extensive new pavements were laid some 7 years ago. (All those with the pale green paving slabs were brand new at that time and extend right along Naebkerhardt as well as Chomsin and over the rail track along towards Canal Rd.)
No small job. And when finished they looked smart. It didn't last of course, but did we expect it to?
The problem isn't peculiar to HuaHin though. Far from it. Many of Bangkoks pavements are a mess, and especially where there is other building work going on. Why maintain a pavement anyway when it is going to be wrecked by ongoing building work? The only difference is that in Western countries the whole pavement beside a building site would be sealed off for pedestrian safety and works access.
Thai people though don't walk as much as us stupid Westerners do. Walking is a sign of poverty and low status. So pavements become eateries and extensions to shop fronts. They are dotted with concrete slopes to enable residents to get their motorbikes/food carts/mobile stalls indoors more easily.
Ownership of pavement space may cause some of the perceived problems, as property boundaries do seem to often extend to the kerb edge. Anyone who has needed alterations to the space outside of their property will realise that the Tessabahn can be pretty strict in measuring and designating 'the line' beyond which the owner cannot extend or alter - and 'the line' - in my experience - has been the kerb edge.

I hope they don't change the old shopping mall too much;for some reason I always liked the chaotic nature of the place and when I'm in town I use it a lot more than Market Village.

Agreed. It would be a shame to lose the character of the Mall IMO. The exterior could do with a facelift but please keep the chaos!

Good Morning Ladies & Lads of HHAD!

Echo Xaclty the same sentiment margeretcarnes And STEVE G The understudy does.

The complexity and the chaos that was there I can remember too well! It was that certain Thai Mall Atmoshere of chaos & complexity that you only get by going to local Malls in the provinces makes this stands out! I hope This renovation would retain this feel!

PS: pssst: Did anyone eer or listen to my new Tune 4 Hua Hin?

any renovation of the shopping mall, esp if timed for opening of the new hotel (surely not - it must take more than 9 months to build ?) must mean the owners are looking for an increase in rents, which mean the existing small holders in there will not be able to afford to move back in. the ones upstairs dont seem to do a lot of business at the moment, and only low rents can justify that.

i have a fear it will become like the 2nd/3rd floor in market village. But, with very little parking, it could become a white elephant.

I do not know how true it is, but I was told a couple of weeks ago that the area now surrounded by a wall, is to be made into a car park!

I heard a multi-story building containing a hotel, small shop shopping mall, and a parking garage.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
