That is sad news BB. As you say in another thread, 1 year left +- until you retire over here. Then a home team there becomes less important. You can adopt any team, anywhere. The Thai PL, Bundesliga, Italian....or even Liverpool. :P Pete

Hey, this administration isn't as bad as it seems at first glance:

- the transfer embargo is lifted, so they can get players in on loan at last.

- there's a few really bad teams in the division - Swindon, Bristol Rovers, Yeovil, Dagenham, Notts Co to name a few. It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that with the right players (Peter Reid has the contacts) that they could still escape relegation.

BB Palace did it, it is not impossible and I think you have the manager to achieve it, if he can get the right loans.

BB, you gotta hope Reid stays first! If they do go into admin, the 1st responsibility will be to cut costs, I don't know what Reid is on, but it could be him that goes if its deemed too much!

Sorry to learn of the mess the club is in. With its location and potential support, it should be a West Country power base.

Peter Reid is not a money grabbing type like some others, although he's obviously not doing it for nothing. He is a real gent, and during the cold spell he was paying the heating bills for the backroom staff out of his own pocket - a gesture that many will not forget. It would be a shame if he had to go as a result.

Location is a huge problem. The Green Army have always had to pay more than the going rate to get players to move to Plymouth. Although a lot of money has mysteriously vanished from the club's coffers, higher than average wage bills have been a contributory factor. This was not helped when the board sold the team from beneath Sturrock. In a bid to build a team very quickly, he panicked and made some very bad purchases eg:

- Emile Mpenza - £10K per week. Injured for most of his stay of 1 Year.
- Simon Walton - £5K per week, 4 year contract. A bad boy who disrupts the rest of the team. Could not hold down a first team place.
- Steve MacLean - £5K per week, 3 year contract. Another bad boy who disrupts the rest of the team. Could not hold down a first team place. Currently on loan to Oxford.

I could go on - these leeches have not helped the cause. These players (players is not really the right term, because they don't actually play) are earning well in excess of 3rd division wages and have been a major drain on resources. They've refused to move elsewhere because other teams would not match their wages - they prefer to sit on their arses doing nothing. The light at the end of the tunnel is their contracts end at the end of this season, so they'll be able to walk away - they certainly won't get a new contract.

BB, I guess I meant as much about having a population in excess of 250k pretty isolated from anywhere else as a support base. Thats more than double the population of Blackburn without the proximity of nearby clubs.

OK, good point. When the team are playing well, the crowd goes up, and it's often hard to get a ticket. However, Plymouth and surrounding area is quite depressed. The main employer, the Naval Dockyard has been shedding jobs at quite a rate of knotts. There's no industry of note moving in behind to replace those jobs.

People will not, and cannot afford to pay to watch poor football. Admission prices have been significantly lowered for the rest of the season in a bid to get bums on seats, but unless Reid manages to import some good loanees very quickly, the current team would struggle in the local Sunday league.

Brighton 3 Green Army 0 after just 60 minutes must say a lot about the current team.

I understand where you're coming from as well, but losing heavily to Brighton is no disgrace, they're sweeping away all in their path this year.....and another Blues old boy managing - maybe he's our next manager, all the others previously doing well have since been sacked!

I do thinkthis is a great shame. This was on the BBC sport page today

Plymouth Argyle go into administration

Plymouth Argyle have gone into administration following a meeting of the club's directors.

The League One outfit has appointed Brendan Guilfoyle of the P&A Partnership as its administrator.

An application by Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs to present the club with a winding-up petition was turned down at a High Court hearing on Friday.

P&A say they are looking to find a buyer for the club, which has already been deducted 10 points, by 17 March.

"A number of interested parties have declared an interest in acquiring the club," a statement from the administrator said.

"It is imperative that a preferred bidder is identified who can provide ongoing funding by 17 March 2011 at the latest.

"The administrators are due to meet with Plymouth City Council on Monday 7 March 2011 with a view to obtaining their assistance in securing the survival of the club."

BBC Sport understands that HMRC is concerned that without a winding-up petition being presented to Argyle, they could lose out on money owed to them by the club during the administration process.

Plymouth's board took the decision to enter administration at a meeting on Friday, having issued a 'notice of intention' to appoint an administrator on Monday, 21 February.

The 'notice of intention' protected Argyle from creditors, including HMRC, who are currently owed £300,000.

However the protection it offered only lasts for 10 days and was due to run out on Monday.

Argyle successfully dodged an HMRC winding-up petition last month when they cleared £760,000 of tax debt.

The club's staff, who have not been paid for six weeks, issued an impassioned statement on Thursday pleading with the directors to "reach a clear, concise and workable solution" to the financial problems at Home Park.
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.

Administration is the best result that we could have hoped for. Give the creditors what money they can muster, and then sell the club to a new regime for a Pound. There are plenty of 'big money' investors queuing up to take the reigns. However, they were not keen on taking on the debt. A brave new world awaits the Green Army in the 4th Division :( .

I wouldn't have thought they'd have helped much anyway, unless they wanted to buy the ground back to save it from the property development vultures. Of course, I wouldn't see them granting planning permission for prime parkland.
