Re: Hua Hin floods/situation
All the Thai shops in our neighborhood just south of the flyover have water, eggs, and pretty much everything they usually have. Even the two 7/11s near me are starting to restock canned goods, packaged noodles, and some water. As of right now, the high rise condos on the beach, which are normally dark except on weekends and holidays because they are 90% Bangkok Thai owned, are still lit up like Christmas trees.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Hua Hin floods/situation
Too right HHF! Prior to the floods mine was the only vehicle in my basement car park - now you can't get a car park anywhere and there are cars parked up and down the (usually empty) soi outside. The whole condo looks like a rich man's refugee camp.hhfarang wrote:As of right now, the high rise condos on the beach, which are normally dark except on weekends and holidays because they are 90% Bangkok Thai owned, are still lit up like Christmas trees.
I haven't used my truck in about a week, 1) I'd never get it back in the basement park and 2) too much ferkin traffic in town. Thank goodness for the little motocyc.

Re: Hua Hin floods
The HuaHin bound trains were suspended due to what looked like pretty localised flooding in the Bang Sue area of Bangkok - which that line passes. The train also goes past waterways and flood prone areas on its way out of town, but at the moment the Bangkok governor is saying another couple of days will see the end of the worst. That line is crucial to Thailand as it goes right through to Singapore.sheffielder68 wrote:Cheers Winkie. That's interesting news. I think this will pass in the next few days. But then again it may be down to Cathay Pacific, who may have to change our flights around if we can't get into Bangkok or complete our holiday itinarary. Fingers crossed everything is ok two weeks and three days from now when I get to BKK from HKK.
And I doubt very much your airline will need to change flights around. Although the other (old) airport DonMuang is currently out of action that one doesn't handle international flights any more. I've not seen anything at all on other sites or Beeb news (which is covering the situation ongoing) about flight disruptions even during the worst flooding.
As far as HuaHin goes - personally I think it unlikely that the Bangkokians who fled there will hang around for longer than necessary. They'll have jobs and businesses to get back to (hopefully!) before the next holiday of LoyKhraton on the 10th.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

Looks like Sai Tai is closed ...
Southern bus terminal closed
The southern bus terminal on Boromratchachonnani road will be closed from 6pm today due to flooding, Transport Company president Wuthichart Kallayanamit said on Monday.
He said the area around the bus terminal had been flooded, making it difficult for passengers to reach and leave the terminal.
The company will open a temporary terminal at the Holland beer hall on Rama 2 Road, which can take about 60 buses at a time, Mr Wuthichart said.

Train are still running to and through HH. In fact, I'm booked on one for this evening to Butterworth.

HH already running out of rice and beer. When you find it the price has doubledkendo wrote:My wife has spoken to the family up in Surin, and they have a considerable amount of land, around about 600 to 700 rai combined, this has been a very wet year the rice is not going brown it's so wet, they think this year a very poor crop, this will push the price up even more.
Two years ago, selling to the rice mill, 6 baht a kilo, last year 13 baht a kilo and near the end of the year 17 baht a kilo.
The weather to us we dony really think about things like rice, very important to a thai as there staple diet.

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Not entirely sure where you shop, but I can't claim to have had any problems. Our experiences obviously differ, but briefly: After the Bangkok post reports last friday there was a run on milk, eggs bread and water - now the 7/11 on Bonkai has so much in, having been sold a bad'un about panic buying that water is stacked up in there; eggs a plenty; no obvious shortage of beer or bread. Tesco & Metro with long and complex supply chains may be being affected, but local convenience stores of the 7/11 and Family Mart type don't seem to have been hit unduly. Last night, Archa beer large 39 a bottle, Leo large 48. I don't think that is doubling, or even close to it.
Story with rice seems to me to be the same - no problem in local stores, only if you go to the majors with their broken supply chains. The 'Roast Pork' man in Tescos food outlets yesterday complained he couldn't get eggs, but Bonkai market and 7/11 both had plenty.

Local bar owner and wife going out to trawl the mom and pop shops for beer, friend desperately trying to get medication, cafe owners complaining about hiked prices for eggs and limiting (one egg per person)
I believe if you shop around the produce is there but the price may be hiked
I take after my mother who used to stockpile (due to heavy snowfalls and rationing) when we lived in the wilds of the Pennines in Yorkshire and had enough to survive 365 days.
My HH cave is open but it's a 2000 Baht entrance fee but my eggs are cheaper than Tescos

But Richard do you give Green Shield stamps? And I bet your cashier is not as good looking as those in Tescos!!
Re: Hua Hin floods/situation
Had a good shop today and the only thing that was scarce was a parking spot and drinking water.
Lucky there was still enough beer to go around!
