Bamboo Grove wrote:Terry, since you seem to be so obsessed by Arsene, mention one great manager of Spurs after Bill Nicholson. 'Arry doesn't count as he came from West Ham, another club that you loath.

Spurs “Hall of Fame" - The second most successful Spurs manager of all time – Keith Burkinshaw. Won a couple of FA Cups and the UEFA cup, promotion from second division. Arsene will get it together to give us a good game next week, don't you fear you arsene fans, it's hard to keep a good team down, the north london derby is a different kettle of fish and I for one am anticipating a nail biting game. Up the Spurs!

What can Le Whinge blame this time? :banghead:
I heard him say that they all put the wrong studs on and the sun was in their eyes in the first and second half. Bit of bad luck that.

One of the corner stones of Arsene will seemingly be gone soon. Sad as I don't think anyone deserves that kind of wages the footballers are getting nowadays. Take the word "loyalty" away from the beautiful game. One of the reasons I actually respect Gerrard.

I thought AVB looked so out of his depth yesterday, waving and flapping his arms for no discernible reason - and he looked as though he was staring into the abyss through glazed eyes?

Its hard to fathom how he is setting up the team to play? Players come in for one game and are then out again and are also played out of position. I'm not sure what was meant to be happening between Meireles and Mikel yesterday, or what their respective intended functions were, but the normally steady Mikel seemed like a fish out of water?

Torres of the torrid time didn't come out of the changing room after being subbed at half-time and it was apparant to all that Drogba was giving a pep talk in the tunnel before coming out for the 2nd half - it seemed to work!

Mata is taken off for the last 7 minutes and Lamps put on - thats a brain twister and worryingly, the body language and dialogue between Di Matteo and AVB didn't seem too positive.

I can only imagine the only reason for keeping so much talent off the pitch was to save them for the game against Napoli. Understandable when its widely rumoured that failure to progress to the next round could be AVB's swansong? But maybe actually giving them time to play with each other might help?

But I predict we'll beat brum in the replay!

Not happy

Stevenage were very good and I think some of the Spurs players didn't turn up.

Oh well - a replay at the Lane

Not what 'Arry wants or needs - that's for sure

If there were no Arsenal, I'd be supporting Brighton. Not their day today, though. However, I'm sure Jamie isn't too happy despite the result. From BBC:
The end of the match is delayed as a male streaker gets on the pitch. He has time to give a reluctant Jamie Carragher a hug before being ushered off.

I was all ready to post my smart-ar*e comment, Spuds mashed, or something similar, but Stevenage let me down. I suppose I will have to wait to use it next weekend.

Wow! Di-Matteo's 1st team away v Brum?

1 Petr Cech (c)
2 Branislav Ivanovic
24 Gary Cahill
4 David Luiz
34 Ryan Bertrand
7 Ramires
12 John Mikel Obi
16 Raul Meireles
21 Salomon Kalou
9 Fernando Torres
10 Juan Mata

Subs: 40 Hilario, 26 John Terry, 5 Michael Essien, 8 Frank Lampard, 23 Daniel Sturridge, 11 Didier Drogba, 18 Romelu Lukaku.

Terry back quickly from his op and Ashley Cole has an ankle injury.

Interesting.

Spurs haven't stopped playing, but I said earlier in the season that we're not converting nearly enough of our attacking play into goals and are always likely to concede one or two, and that is proving to be the problem. It's no use having 70% possession, 25 shots on goal and a dozen corners if you only score once and finish with a draw.
So, a 3-1 win and we're in the semi-finals. Good result. We're on our way to Wemberley, etc. etc. blablabla.

However, in many respects, as well as Spurs played, the performance summed up what I said above. I don't know the stats, but I doubt they were far off what I referred to. As well as Dan Bog, the Bolton keeper, played, he wouldn't have been physically capable of making most of those saves if the shots/headers had been a foot or so to either side. Bolton were crap. We should have been out of sight by half time and won the game by 5 or 6 at least. When we can do this regularly, we'll have cracked it.

Unfortunately, you can't play Bolton every week
