Dengue fever in Hua Hin?
Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?
We've just been "fogged" in Smor Phrong area. That's 3 times in the last 4 months or so. It seems like Hua Hin at least is taking the threat of Dengue seriously. Hopefully it'll cut down the number of flies as well.
Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?
I've no idea where Smor Phrong is, but I've not seen them in the Bon Kai/Maegep areas in 15 months of living here.

Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?
Maybe Smor Phrong is a Dengue hotspot?

Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?
Or maybe someone important lives around here?

Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?
They don't actually do houses and gardens, just along the edges of the sois and the fog drifts around. Only public sois I would guess, so gated communities would presumably arrange this sort of thing themselves.
Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?
We're public (not in a gated community), and get ignored.

If a Thai wife or 3 goes to the Thesabahn and indicates the yungs are very bad they usually comply and send a spray truck, at least in my Rayong area. Problem is the yung population only decreases for a week or so.
See below link. These are very good and you can clear about an acre and keep it clear just about forever if you run it regularly. No idea if they sell in Thailand. Pete

Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?
I had dengue this past September. Not fun at all. And this week two people in my gated community got sick, so it's definitively back in the area (I live in Smor Phrong).
Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?
Is the fog actually an insecticide or just a diesel exhaust cloud? I had always thought the guys who walk around with a leaf blower type of device spewing clouds of grey smoke were actually spreading toxic clouds of insecticide, but then I read where they are basically diesel engines emitting plumes of diesel exhaust which is intended to coat water surfaces with a petroleum layer to kill mosquito larvae in the water by cutting off their access to oxygen.
What's the real story about those foggers?

Bad news for us beer drinkers. I just read this in an article about mosquitoes... I guess the little buggers enjoy a bit of malt in their blood...
Beer drinkers beware
Swigging just one bottle of beer can significantly boost your risk of being bitten, according to a study published in Journal of the American Mosquito Control Association. The researchers reported that, “Mosquito landing on volunteers significantly increased after beer ingestion compared with before ingestion.”
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I thought Brewers Yeast was one of the recommendations to keep the beasties away.

Brewers yeast is used to make beer, but is not part of the final product.Big Boy wrote:I thought Brewers Yeast was one of the recommendations to keep the beasties away.
In simplified form: yeast eats sugar, digests it, craps out alcohol and carbon dioxide. Well fed yeasts sink to bottom, beer is removed without disturbing them so the yeasts can fulfill their next step in the food cycle - becoming Vegemite.
