Buying a New TV
Re: Buying a New TV
Good advice and I'd thought of that. Thanks.

" I could bore a hole through the bedroom door for a cable but I don't think the owner would be too happy with that. "
It's not too hard to add a new cable outlet and most owners welcome it when they realize that it adds value to the property.

Re: Buying a New TV
Just a small warning about USB ports
Most TVs have them these days and they are inputs for movies / games etc
However on SOME models these are OUTPUT only for diagnostic purposes
So - check before you buy.
Last weekend, I treated myself to a LG 55" LED, HD, 3D, Smart TV for only THB 39,900. This same TV was over THB 100,000 a year or so back. It's great fully loaded and now connected to our Wi-Fi set up.

Is it a curved screen Terry? I was watching a couple in market Village the other day, and something didn't feel right with the picture to me. Probably just my own internal programming, too old, making it difficult to adjust.
If it is curved, how are you getting on with it?

Re: Buying a New TV
No BB - it's flat screen
I've looked at the curved ones and I genuinely don't like them.
An ordinary HD / 3D set is just as good in my opinion - but then I'm an olde pharte anyway.........

They don`t get very good press on most internet reviews. Seems that they may have a place, but not in a house sized room.If it is curved, how are you getting on with it?
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Re: Buying a New TV
Terry, when you say "connected" to your WiFi, I take it you mean wirelessly connected so that you can stream from your computer (connected to the internet) to your TV wirelessly and with no other "magic box" in between? The TV has all that built in?
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Why would he need his computer if it's a SMART TV?

Re: Buying a New TV
I guess I haven't explored exactly what a smart TV is. Are you saying it has the entire capability of a computer built into it? Can you connect a keyboard and do spreadsheets and such on it and does it have storage built in or does it just have direct WiFi ability built in so that you can stream wirelessly with your home WiFi like to an Ipad or smart phone?
I've only had "dumb" TVs I guess even though I had a top of the line Samsung (of about 4 years ago), but it was not wireless (WiFi) capable without being connected to an external black box or computer.

Re: Buying a New TV
I'm not sure what memory a TV has built in, but it's certainly fine for writing e-mails and streaming things such as You Tube.

Re: Buying a New TV
What operating system do they use? Android? I can't see a TV with a Windows OS on it, having to update your TV with patches weekly and protect it with anti virus software would really suck.

Re: Buying a New TV
Personally, I've opted for older TVs and seperate Android boxes. However, this is old fashioned, and getting harder to find/do (but cheaper).

Re: Buying a New TV
Some TV's now have android, others use their own systems. I have a Panasonic which isn't like a full computer but it's great for streaming music videos from Youtube which is what I bought it for. It does have a browser built in but I've never tried to use it and I know you can use a wifi keyboard as well if you want to.hhfarang wrote:What operating system do they use? Android?
