Vitamin supplements
Re: Vitamin supplements
Having spent some time on google regards vitamin supplements (the result of being bored) there doesn't seem to be any universal agreement on which is better, synthetic or natural.
There is plenty of info stating that there's no evidence that either synthetic or natural absorbs better.
There is also plenty of info stating the contrary.
In short, it's a case of 'suck it and see' as there is no definitive evidence stating one or the other.

So is Magnesium Chelated good?Spitfire wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 9:35 am It is also worth checking out the form a mineral takes itself in a supplement as some forms of a mineral are more easy for your body to absorb than others (bioavailability). For example, zinc oxide is not well absorbed but chelated zinc is or magnesium chloride is far more well absorbed than magnesium oxide ... so it's a good thing to see what form the mineral is in. Obviously though, you pay for what you get.

Yes. Best magnesium forms are probably the chelated or citrate versions as they seem to offer the best uptake rates of absorbing it (magnesium glycinate is a soft version for those who are sensitive to the others). Magnesium is a very useful mineral to take, especially if you are worried about your blood sugar levels or muscles/nerves etc. Google has plenty of info on them both if you wish to indulge on info.So is Magnesium Chelated good?

More esoterica: Chelate comes from a Greek word, meaning claw. The "claw, in this case, is an amino acid that binds to a mineral and makes it more available to your body.Spitfire wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 6:47 pmYes. The only way to know if you need supplements is by having a blood test, otherwise you're just guessing. Taking things you don't need is rarely harmful but useless.
If you're on a restricted diet you may to supplement. I don't eat animal products so I need B12 & CoQ10, I don't spend enough time in the sun and need Vit D. Every thing else I can get from fruits and vegetables. There's no one size fits all.
Before I moved to Thailand I bought only from *reputable companies but since I moved here I buy what I can get.
*I spent over 10 yrs. working in the vitamin business & I know who the reputable companies are.
Re: Vitamin supplements
iHerb package arrived today, just over 2 weeks shipped from the US during times of covid.
+1 for iHerb, that will be my go-to from now on!

Well its on my dining room table and I didn't pay any extra so I guess not. There was an exact description of the item, and the cost on the box so maybe below their radar for duty?

$30 for a year's supply. Buying in Thailand would have cost triple for the same quantity and product quality/strength.

Re: Vitamin supplements
Which shipping method did you use?
Re: Vitamin supplements
Dunno, it was free, but I think the 'Plus' option which uses DHL.
So you're saying I was lucky to escape customs!?
