Bastards are putting one up on our gate. I've told them to go forth and multiply.
Only joking.

Right, I'm amazed how much some guys use shopping malls - I hate the effing places and will avoid at all costs!

When 5G gets rolled out, they'll be able to auto-track you using facial recognition, as they do in Chinese cities.

That will be the new world-wide standard.

The new Thai ruse - point a blank phone screen at the QR Code and walk through. I saw this happen a few times today - the website is useless. I'm a novice user but even I've worked out that after scanning it takes a minimum of 2 finger taps entering a shop, and 3 finger taps leaving a shop. The Thai deceivers weren't tapping anything, I thought the enforcer was stood there the confirm everybody's green tick on their screen. No tick, direct people to the register. The enforcers couldn't enforce anything. If they aren't enforcing whilst stood at every entrance of Market Village, what are they doing? Answer is simple - the same as every other security guard without a whistle in Thailand - nothing.

Another 'brilliant' Thai idea destined for the bin. TIT.

And just to make everyone's life easier, my local 7-11 on soi 51 now has a girl behind probably bullet proof glass (joking) with her thermometer and - yes you've guessed it, a register for names and telephone numbers.

I didn't notice whether the app could be used as I don't have a smart phone but a friend had tipped me off that registration was being asked for last night. I just had to go and take a look - needed cash and beers.

I asked the girl whether she wanted my passport and confirmation of a flight out of Thailand. She didn't get that so I scribbled my initials and put down the first 7 or 8 digits that came to mind for a telephone number.

On my way out, a Thai chap came in from a local hotel - he was wearing the shirt. He wasn't going to sign in but I stopped by the desk and he and the girl quickly realised that I was checking whether he did. We all smiled and he did.

I didn't bother to sign out.

I don't know whether this is a directive to all 7-11s or just that my local one is being "covid friendly".

The sort of lack of public cooperation (rightly or wrongly according to personal philosophy) that eventually leads to much worse non-consensual methods such as tracking apps à la China.

Yes, I suppose you're right on that. Mea culpa and I'll try and toe the line a bit better in the future.

Note to self - try and memorise your phone number because I normally don't take it out with locally and even if I do, I've got to open the contacts file up to see what it is.

Exactly my point throughout this thread. For an app this important to rely so much on public cooperation, it is not fit for purpose. As much as we all hate it, in a scenario such as Covid-19, a Chinese style solution is probably necessary.

I was going to say 'not fit for purpose in Thailand', but I think world news has shown there are boneheads all over the world who believe the restrictions don't apply to them.

[Edit] Please don't get me wrong, yes, I hate Thai Chana, but I try to cooperate. However, the app is so weak, even trying to abide by the instructions, I know that in a week, I've actually got it wrong 4 times, so I'm as bad as the Thai deceivers in a way. So much emphasis is being on the app, it should be fool proof.

I was forced into this app at my local 7/11. I won't comment on the effectiveness of it, albeit to say that after scanning the QR code and putting in my number (a once only task I'm told) it was pretty painless. A quick scan on the way out and it was done.
They tell me that I never have to put my number in again. Anywhere there is a QR code, I just read the code on the way in then read it again on the way out. Seems simple.

I don't have a phone and so far, I've walked in and out of everywhere and have not been stopped. But, at heart, I'm an anarchist. (Not the bomb throwing type, nor the overthrow of governments.)

Yes, the scanning is simple. The problem is that it's handraulic, and too easy to abuse. Putting a crash helmet is easy, but how many abuse it. This is supposed to be important, so why not make it secure/foolproof?

My issue is scanning when leaving. My hands are occupied with the items I have bought. Yes, I am one of those walking/driving around without a plastic bag, and nowadays they want give you one. So countless times I have only checked in and not out, 5555!

Coming out of Tops supermarket today I didn’t see any sign to scan out so I guess I’m still in there tonight. Having a party, but they don’t sell alcohol :(

Just back up the browser and tap the checkout sign. My wife unknowingly spent 30 seconds in Makro today without leaving home.
