Just like the Inel thing.
No investor confidence might have some thing to do with it. Vietnam, here comes our money. Thought there was a Summit going on in Hanoi?

I notice now there are actually three varieties of bottled Chang: Chang light, Chang draught and the original Chang.
I think they have strengths of 4, 5 and 6 percent respectively. The light version is a pleasant enough drink for the afternoon, but you can’t put ice in it like the original, as it becomes tasteless. I haven’t tried the draught version yet; I suppose it is a little less harsh than the original.

I saw today that Heineken has now come out with a 5 liter home keg with pump that can fit in the frig. I'm curious if what's inside tastes like that from the bottle, or draft (I hope). If anyone should buy/try one, please let us know. Pete

 I wonder how long the pipe on those kegs are? My GF has gone back to work and I'd have to walk about 20ft from my recliner to the fridge to fetch my own beer. Thats just not on. And I have just had my toes amputated to allow me stand closer to the bar.

Pete, in Europe you can buy a small cooler that the keg sits inside with the tap sticking out the front. There is another one made by Phillips that looks like a pub beer tap, but that one only takes special kegs made for it.

But how would you keep the cans cold, BaaBaa? :P

Thanks Steve. No matter how much I try though, the damn beer here really sucks, I don't care what brand made locally. Chang is nothing but a quick drunk, you can't really taste the 'beer' for the alcohol.

Singha has it's moments for the first few bottles until your lips and tongue start to twist and pucker.

Leo is nice, smooth but too weak, the opposite of Chang, and you sober up from all the trips to the head over an evening and wondering why you don't feel 'happy' yet?

There are a few more new locals like San Miguel, but it is not the SM you get in the Philippines or Hong Kong. Again, it's a local concoction.

As I've mentioned, the only locally made beer that I find somewhat enjoyable is Heineken ON DRAFT ONLY. It's not the same animal as their bottles.

So, I think we can be sure that the local brewers brew to make money knowing that their main audience, Thai drinkers, don't give a rats ass about quality as long as they get as drunk as possible, as quickly as possible, and for the least amount of money.

The only haven over here in Pattaya for real beer lovers are farang pubs who import the good stuff, EU and British, Irish. I would think all of LOS is the same.

I'm actually starting to drink vodka and tonic, that tells a tale in itself! Pete

You could get a bag of ice from 7/11, and stick that on your head as well.

Pete, the only quality bottled beer that I’ve found, in any quantity in Thailand is Erdinger. It’s a gorgeous tasting beer, but the only problem with it is that you can’t drink it all night. Well you can, but it will mess you up a bit the next day.
I know a lot about this as about three years ago I spent six months living in Erding, while I was working at Munich airport and it tastes even better from the tap.
When there is a big celebration in the town, the mad fools even give the stuff away for free!

The best beer I have had in Asia that has been brewed here and does not mimic a foreign beer is Tsing Tao from China. During my misspent youth in Malaysia it was the only beer and it was cheap. I can't remember exactly but I think you normally got a 500ml bottle for the price of a 330ml Tiger. The local Anchor beer brewed by Guinness was only suitable to stop temporary de-hydration until you found something else.

There are a couple of half decent Indian beers in Malaysia nowadays but has anybody seen any Chinese or Indian beers here in Thailand.

Pesonally the occasional beer is ok, but give me a drop of wine any day 8)
