Re: The Boxing Thread
Without wanting to spoil the result, for those that want to see this, highlights of the match on Sky Sports - this is from the UK, so not sure whether you will be able to watch it in Thailand (unless you have a VPN)?

Jolly decent of you to avoid the spoiler, DB, but the headline at the link, and the first thing you see, is: Daniel Dubois DESTROYS Anthony Joshua at Wembley!

Re: The Boxing Thread
Haha...
In Thailand some of us have IPTV which shows all PPV events too.
It was a destruction, but the first round punch is what brought it on. AJ just jabbing and letting the haymakers come, it did look a bit weird. Maybe he should retire this year as he promised, but he'll probably have to honour a rematch clause. The rematch will show if he can rebuild.
Dubois is growing in stature as I had hoped. His defence is still suspect and he doesn't like to move his head so he can be a bit of a target, but those punches....
I'm guessing Fury next although I'm sure Usyk really wants that belt back!
Natasha Jonas, the current women's IBF welterweight belt holder (and other titles in the past) was on the Sky Sports team and I thought she was really good, and also I think she's a very pretty little stick of dynamite. Even the scouse accent didn't hurt as much coming from her.

Re: The Boxing Thread
So, a Title Fight in London Wembley Stadium between two British Boxers and the first National Anthem played is that of Saudi Arabia... So, money sings as well as talks it seems. Too much money and far too much power and corruption in high level sports........
Certainly can't take anything away from Dubois - he definitely comes across far better in the ring than he does in interviews!
He did the business on AJ, clinical, powerful display and full credit to him - will we see him facing Fury or Usyk after their re-match or will these two retire afterwards regardless of the result? Is there a re-match clause with Joshua? In this day and age there always seems to be one, but an interesting comment from Frank Warren: -
"There is a clause [for a rematch with Joshua] in his contract but not in ours. But that's not to say we wouldn't do it. It's something we'll sit down and discuss." - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/arti ... l8x1zny06o
Personally, I think it's time AJ hung up the gloves - he certainly doesn't need to go through that punishment again for any reason. Some people will say it's just a hunger for the sport to keep going, but it get's to the point where it's just greed for financial reward and "status". No sports "person" wants to end things on a low, but he's done great things for the sport especially in the UK and should be remembered for that. I liked the guy as a boxer and certainly had respect for him, but he was never a Lennox and to be mentioned in the same league as Ali as he was as a possible "Three Time World Heavyweight Champion" is well, you know....
Usyk vs Fury is scheduled for December 21st..... Hopefully Fury will then be put into permanent retirement.

Couldn't agree more with that - AJ looked very poor, low hands, walking onto jabs and punches, but it was the First Round "Haymaker" that put his senses out the stadium, let alone the ring - Heavyweights just don't fully recover from that kind of blow and unfortunately for him, they kept on coming.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 4:19 pm It was a destruction, but the first round punch is what brought it on. Re: The Boxing Thread
A money grabbing farce of course, but I do hope Tyson drops Paul on his arse...
"YouTuber Jake Paul faces heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in a professional boxing match on 15 November in Arlington, Texas.
The bout is a controversial one considering Tyson is 58 years old, but on the undercard are three world-title fights including the highly anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.
Organisers are hopeful of selling 60,000 tickets at the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium, which can hold 80,000 fans.
The fight night is also the first boxing event to be streamed by Netflix, with Taylor and Serrano serving as the co-main event for the undisputed light-welterweight title.
You can follow live text commentary of Paul v Tyson and Taylor v Serrano from 03:00 GMT on 16 November on the BBC Sport website and app."

Re: The Boxing Thread
A farce indeed. Tyson needs the money as he's old, and the winnings from long ago are long gone.
Paul needs the reputation as he's a nothing and sliding down the social media ladder. Look at him, he's a pig and probably a druggie.
If there was no social media (my dream), ridiculous events wouldn't exist.

Exactly, such a match does not deserve a mention. It isn't boxing.
How can they have 3 world title matches on the undercard?

Re: The Boxing Thread
The Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano return fight is the co-main event - if the first fight was anything to judge by, it should be a cracker - a real fight....
Re: The Boxing Thread
The Tyson fight might be a farce, but the Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano scrap was amazing.

Re: The Boxing Thread
The stream cut off in the dying seconds - Netflix died for this event. I actually had a kip after the rugby earlier to wake up for th Undercard fights which were superb! Now Netflix is showing a bloody re-run of all, the Tyson/Paul fight non-existent.... What a bloody failure - can't even find the result on any news outlets at the moment.

[EDIT] Now seen the result (I shan't post) - F U Very Much Netflix! Would have been good to watch the bloody fight.. AND see the last of Taylor vs Serrano!

Re: The Boxing Thread
I'll also add, the Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos fight was a cracker...

Re: The Boxing Thread
Thankfully, it's working fine here in Thailand.
Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos was good, but not in the same class as Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano - a proper toe to toe scrap.
Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders aren't bad either. A few of those most be worth doing 10 rounds with
