Thanks for the good wishes guys - all I need now is a decent second-hand parrot! ...

... actually everything turned out really well.
@richard - when I got to Rutnin, I told them I was looking for a hotel and they sent me to your Bangkok Boutique Hotel.
After being told on the phone they were full, there was suddenly a room free for 1700/night.
Told them that I was being treated at Rutnin and it turns out they have an arrangement with the hospital. After I got someone from Rutnin to phone the hotel, the price suddenly dropped to 1300.
Incidentally, my doctor's name is Kalayanee Rojanaporn

I had the operation on my right eye on Thursday afternoon and opted to be an in-patient overnight.
Everything went really well and the service and care were absolutely excellent.
Woke up Friday morning and they uncovered my eye - wow, I didn't realise such clarity and fullness of colours existed - I now have near perfect vision in one eye.
Can't wait to get the second one done - have opted to do that next week so I don't have an extended period of disparity of vision.

It is a great feeling, isn't it. I remember looking at the trees after the first operation and wondering how dark green they really were.

Yes, your dead right BG - I've noticed it particularly with blue and green.

I remember having a couple of lighthearted spats in the past with my gf over something I said was tourquoise or more towards green and she swore it was blue.
Well, she was obviously right all along - I've been comparing the colour of things using the non-operated eye with my glasses and then looking at the same thing with my new eye - it's unbelievable that the difference can be so great!!

Another one joins the world of HD and colour. I've found that I can read even the smallest of print in the Bangkok Post although I was told that I would probably need reading glasses!!

Still don't understand why you guys will travel all the way to Bangkok with overnight stops and the expense involved when it can be done very successfully here in Hua Hin! Several of my friends have had it done here and are thrilled with the outcome. There is getting to be quite a queue here so I'm sure Dr. Pairat's reputation will continue to grow.

Anyway, Barry, welcome to our world!

I agree to your comments 100% HHtel. Dr. Pairat is a very professional eye specialist. I had my left eye operated in Oz in similar fashion and the results are the same. The after care here is even better than in Australia.
Indeed, there is need to go to Bangkok. Surely the results cannot be any better than here?

Am now going through the initiation rites of this exclusive club. 8)

Having had face furniture for 25+ years, I've decided that rather than have new specs (due about now), to have the implants. I also have early cataracts - normal in an old git like me.

I am a great believer in Dr. Pairat - I've been consulting him for around 6 years and if based more in HH, would have probably had all done there.
However, because I'm based in Bangkok and live in Soi 20 from Mon to Fri, then Rutnin is a good choice for me.

Had a whole day of tests and discussions with Dr. Kalayanee Rojanaporn yesterday. This is the same surgeon as recommended by Barry.
She is a very thorough and precise doctor who took a lot of time to explain my options and the procedure that I'm to go through.

First step is to try some contact lenses, to test the focal length that she is prescribing.
I will be doing this over the weekend.

Then most likely to have the first eye done in about two weeks from now, with the second one a week later.

Watch this space - some can, clearer than others................... :duck:

Go for it, Terry - you won't regret it.
And Dr. Kalayanee really is a first-class ophthalmologist and surgeon.

Do you intend staying overnight after your operation?
I'd really recommend it - the care is second to none.

Yep she's very good by all accounts.

I WILL be staying overnight.

She has surgery on a Thursday, so the plan as of now is
a) Operate on Thursday
b) Stay in overnight and go back to my apartment in Soi 20 on Friday.
c) Take it easy on the Saturday and Sunday.
d) Back to work on the Monday

Repeat all of the above commencing the following Thursday.

She has assured me that driving is possible but I do not want to tackle the BKK-HH-BKK drive with one implant and one contact lense in the intervening period.

So it's two consecutive weekends in Bangkok.

I'll try and arrange the first one for Thursday August 1st as I will be taking my eldest son to watch Liverpool play on Sunday 28 July. Don't fancy going to a football game too soon after surgery.

Back at apartment in Soi 20 having spent all yesterday / overnight and this morning at Rutnin.

First eye done - very successful. Didn't feel a thing - in fact was having a nice conversation with Dr. Kalayanee throughout !!!!!!!! A truly amazing lady. The world really IS now a different colour.

Now wrestling with the disparity of vision between one good mincer and one about to be sorted.

Roll on next Tuesday and it's all over.
