Heres why i mentioned it:
if you were a foreigner who had survived his thai wife and were unaware of thai inheritance law regarding land you may not find it pedantic

My last word on this ridiculous debate on what has been said - klikster, it is a fact that you posted on this thread, and one of the things you posted not only suggested but said outright about the trustworthiness of agents and developers, and I quoteklikster wrote:You might not get yourself in these mental tangles if you read what I write:Wanderlust wrote: I don't know how you make that leap from what I said! I just criticised the fact that you suggested that any agent or developer can't be trusted
"Do not take advice from property developers or sales agents."
Rather than what you inferred (maybe selective memory?) from what I write
" .. the fact that you suggested that any agent or developer can't be trusted"
Especially when what you call "fact" .. simply isn't.
.Because one can't know about an agent's or developer's motivations, that is sufficient reason to not necessarily trust them.
In tandem with the comment I picked you up on, because it was in my opinion unnecessary, and in my opinion (and I feel pretty sure most others on here) you are suggesting that any agent or developer can't be trusted. To me it is a fact that you are suggesting that, but your verbal gymnastics quite simply bore the pants off me, and quite obviously the rest of the contributors to this thread.
As regards the original post, it has long been known that there are problems specific to Samui that were the warning signs for other places and I believe they are not happening on anywhere close to the same scale anywhere else; this is of course just my opinion.

land
it may well be true, just one thought on the subject.Super Joe wrote:Heres why i mentioned it:

how many foreigners would you say will outlive their thai spouses?
i would guess quite a low percentage!?!
without sounding rude or pedantic & without overly generalising, it seems that most thai spouses are a lot younger than their foreign husbands.

Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

I love this forum.
So many fascinating debates.
Of course, whether or not farangs can own land isn't one of them.
But let's face it, klikster is technically correct - if you're investing a mere 40 million baht a year, consistently, in Thailand, you can apply to have a rai of land in your own name for residential purposes.
What I don't understand is why estate agents are under such heavy guard on HHAD. I don't see every posting, but it seems to me that this is the only forum in the world where anyone who questions the integrity of an estate agent gets an instant telling off, whereas they've been fair game for comedians for at least 30 years. You'll be defending politicians next. Sorry to the many honest agents out there, but for Christ's sake, you must be used to having the piss taken out of you by now.
Property developers? Thai police? Immigration? Bureacracy in general?
Help yourselves, HHAD provides a free basket of rotten tomatoes.
Gawd, it's almost as if HHAD was an estate agent and felt insecure.
But how silly would that be?
