Spitfire,
Where are the copies of the files located (could you provide path names to what you believe are the originals and clones).
Maybe the clones are inside some sort of backup file. There is a backup facility in XP (at least I read that somewhere). Maybe you're using it and didn't even know it.

Not sure exactly HHF, just get the option of scanning a drive and then comes up with a huge list of something like,
01.jpeg C:\Documents and settings\user\My Documents\My pictures
01.jpeg D:\User\My Documents\My Pictures\Bangkok\
Get the option to delete them both or just one as well as view properties etc but both the above are the same picture.
I reckon I've got a list of about 500-600 or more of these duplicates, mainly MP3, jpeg photos and game files.
Maybe it's scanning back-ups as well but then wouldn't there be more than just 2 of everything as there are loads of back up points? I'm not sure.
Just wondering if they are all necessary or not and if any benefit can be gained by deleting one them all, seems a lot of extra stuff floating around. My PC seems OK, just trying to optimize it and free it of unnecessary crap. There must be some point to it all otherwise there would be no point having this admin tool. Interested to learn and discuss this sort of stuff.

Checking the file size is a good way, photos and music files are easy to compare by simply looking at/listening to them. It seems that some of your system tweaking utilities has made a backup from one drive to another (which is not a bad idea).
Deleting these files won't increase system performance, it'll just give you a bit more disk space back.

Spitfire,
I still think you've got a backup running and don't know it. The article I read recently was about computers being sold with a D: partition that was used only by this backup facility, so unless you partitioned your drive yourself or have two drives in your machine (C: and D: ) then I think your computer came with a D: backup partition and the utility that is doing the backups.
It was one of those articles where users write in with computer problems and the user needed more disk space and said his machine had a D: partition that he never created. The expert answered that this was a backup partition designed to store backup files created by a system utility and that many systems came preloaded that way.
Maybe you want to keep them as backup?

USB EDGE Modem for laptop ...
Anybody have any experience, or know whether, these type of laptop USB plug-in EDGE/GPRS modems give you similar connection speeds as EDGE does on our mobile phones ?
Or does running EDGE on computers make the speeds slower for some reason ?

This particular model is a:
Solomon SEGM-520 (USB EDGE Modem)
Frequency: Quad Band GSM 900/1800 MHz GSM 850/1900 MHz
GPRS Class: 10
It claims ..... 'Internet High Speed Access up to 460.8 Kbps'
Thanks,
SJ

On it now (so to speak) in a bar in Takiab, honestly seems as fast as my 1Mbps TOT Broadband connection at home, well impressed. Got the Solomon 520CT, AIS sim with 30 hours free with it, 4900 Baht. They had a 2,000 Baht one but seemed a bit of a scouse make, so thought better not risk it.
They had 3G USB modems too, and the AIS one was cheaper at 3500'ish, but lady said 3G can only be received in certain areas of Hua Hin, once you get too far away from town will be a problem.
Cheers,
SJ

Sounds good, what are the monthly fees and is there a bandwidth limit?
Give it a go on www.speedtest.net

I have this little problem
Script that should appear in Thai now appears as a line of little squares in the place of script!! All English script from these sites/e-mails is ok, it's just the Thai stuff?
It is the same on e-mails and on Thai newspapers that the wife likes to read. Google translate doesn't help.
I'm using IE8 I know I know.
Any ideas welcomed, my life is hell at the moment, as she thinks it is something I have done to computer.
I want to survive this Christmas in one piece.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
