Yeah, golf kit in HH is silly prices, there is an entire shopping plaza in Bangkok that may have some good deals (if it hasn't been burnt down). http://thaniyaplaza.com

There is still time for me. A 75 year old who has been playing for only 6 years achieved TWO holes in one in the same round yesterday. This was reported in the Dail Mail today. Whoever calculates thse thing said it was equivalent odds to winning the lottery 4 times

That is amazing... I've been playing off and on since I was 12 years old including a lot of par 3 courses and I've never made a single hole in one; though I've made 3 eagles on par 4 holes which is a near equivalent but still not the same at all!

Congrats... the golf Gods must like you!

I couldn't find a location map on that site so here's one. It's located on the Silom end of Soi Taniya. Pete

Thanks! I have decided on flying into Bangkok and renting a car so I will certainly make a stop in Bangkok and see if I can find any deals on my way in. Pete, you have been more than helpful, if I run into you in HH, beers are on me :)

 Buksi breaks 100!

Played my most consistent round today at DB and came in with a 49 and 47 and the same ball I started out with. Three putted more often than not on those moon-faced greens so there is room for improvement but the highest numbers on the card were two 7's - I usually have a couple of retarded holes ending in double figures.

I'm chuffed to finally reach this milestone after nearly two years. Dragon Hills tomorrow ... bring it on!

Congratulations, great round Buksi... and just think what you could have done on a course that has grass!

Was at Dragon Hills today.
First off, we took advantage of the "Monday Special Promotion". Fantastic value at 550 THB for green fee, caddie fee and lunch. This runs until the end of October.
I hadn't played there since last year and am happy to report that the course is still in excellent condition. Very verdant with lush tees and fairways and greens very true. The only slight gripes would be that the greens play slower than they look. We all had 18 holes to get it right but I bet that 90% of our putts from 15-infinity feet were always left short. We had plenty of opportunity to get it right, but none of us could!!
The bunkers had got some heavy rain lately, so they weren't ideal but that wasn't the course's fault, just the recent weather conditions.
A word of warning. Someone's letting the rough grow and it's brutal. High and thick. Keep your ball on the fairways.
Lunch was simple but good fare - fried rice with chicken, noodles with... soup with... and an iced soft drink. We played the front nine and then sat in the clubhouse for about an hour over a cold beer - well that was mine - at around 2-3pm and then went out and played the back nine.
All-in-all a great day out at a spectacular course in good condition. OK, it takes about 1.75 hours to get there, but for us it was worth it.
Here's their web site with other promotions that are running until the end of October:
http://www.dragonhillsgolf.com/web_Eng/promotion_e.htm
I also asked about the two day and overnight accommodation that we took advantage of last year (I think I reported on it somewhere back in all these pages). They seemed to be saying that it's 1,400 THB for a round on Saturday and Sunday with overnight at their hotel with breakfast. It could be cheaper for the same mid week. I'd suggest a call to the course first to confirm these two day packages.
Enough about that. I love the course and it's affordable. Bring on Royal Ratchaburi next. I havn't played there for about nine years.

As usual the map on their web site sucks. Now that you've been there a few times can you give turn by turn directions and highway numbers to get there?

I can give approximations and if you follow them you probably won't go wrong.
So, up towards BKK, through Petchaburi until the big junction that goes off to BKK. You go straight on to Ratchaburi.
After some 15mins, at a steady 100kph and through one set of traffic lights, you'll come to a big petrol station on your left (you can see it from a long way off by their "big star" sign - not sure what the petrol company is called).
There a set of lights there, so turn left on the A3337. That's the big turn off.
After approx 15-20 mins on the road, you'll be going round a gradual left hand bend and half way through it there's a sign for the A3337 turning off to your right. I know it's not the main road, but somehow that 3337 turns off right. That's how it is. Take the right.
After about 5 mins or so you'll pass a big temple on your right and the road bends at almost right angles to the left. At that bend, there's a road that goes straight on (ie you've got to make a right turn over the 3337, a sort of Y junction).
Go on for about another 5 mins and there's a right hand turn clearly signposted in English to the course (the ones before at other junctions are in Thai).
Follow that road for maybe 10kms or so and you'll pass a school on your left. Carry on another few kms and the entrance to DH is on your left.
Can't be more specific about road numbers, but others followed these approx direction and got to the course OK at their first attempt. If you think you're going astray, just ask for the golf course. As there's nothing else within miles, everyone will be able to direct you.
Good luck.

Up at Dolphin Bay again today, they're re-doing all of the greens which will take a couple of months. Looks like they're being re-turfed, I don't know much about these things, just aimed at the big pile of sand today. Donations are welcome as they have virtually no budget and it is the only free golf course in the area ... if not the country.

Not quite, barrys. Last time I was there, it was 113THB for two rounds of 9 holes and trolley.
