Yes. When I put my standard(pocket) headphones in and turn the volume up to max on the redmi note 9 its about 10/15% lower than my current device(redmi note 4x)

Happy with the device other than that but I just fear that the volume issue will bug me forever more!

Hence all the discussions about Dolby atmos

There is a separate volume control in "Settings" where you set the max level for "Ringtone", "Media", "Notifications" and "System" (at least with Android devices). This is separate to the volume keys on the phone - is this the issue perhaps?
No I genuinely think its not the issue

It doesn't separately control the max volume of say YouTube video.

You can set media to 50%,go to YouTube. turn up the volume on a video and media volume just rises with it

Happy to be corrected...

I’ve just noticed that you’ve been talking about upgrading your phone for over a year, surprised you can’t find anything that is suitable?

Whilst mentioned a year ago, I then shelved it. I think that's quite normal, you fancy replacing something but then realise you can make do with it. I think that was the right call looking back.

However now actively(very actively) looking due to a recent loudspeaker audio issue on current device(posted separately, probably not worth the 1000 baht to fix, as other things are wearing out too. )

I certainly haven't been actively looking for a year, that would be torture. I'm sick of watching YouTube comparison videos. Plus I have all the hassle to come of setting up the new device. It's a pain in the a## changing phones

It's ironic that my favoured replacement also has an audio issue(well, for me it does!)

Off to Powerbuy this afternoon then MV later

Ps if you are suggesting that I'm fussy about changing phones then you're absolutely spot on. I find the decision making process agonising(it has a lot to do with age I think Image)

I wasn’t suggesting anything in particular, other than I noticed you beginning your search in early 2019, so was curious as to why you had yet to buy - maybe you’ll find that illusive model ( the phone variety) this afternoon!!

Current Top of the Pops chart....mostly in reverse order

Galaxy A50 good but chipset average

Xiaomi redmi note 9 pro/Pro max v good but max volume is NOT loud!

Galaxy M31 similar to a50 good but average chip perf

Realme. X2 very good chip SD 730g and amoled fast charge

Poco x2 730g not amoled

Realme. 6 Pro camera not quite as good as some others

I'm sure one can find fault with every phone, the trick is to avoid the fault that would really bug you! Eg I'm not that fussed re amazing camera features or gaming but I want good/v good sound! And I don't mean from the bottom sigke speaker I mean headphones

Each to his own etc

I genuinely look forward to doing that!

More frustration today with Eargate!

I tested Dolby Atmos in a Samsung A51 in MV(Powerbuy models didn't have in this year versions, according to them).

So,
1. can I tell the difference with Atmos on or off? Yes, but only just! I'd estimate that Atmos increases effective volume by 5% only. I tested it about 10 times with different songs on YouTube using the same headphones(mine)

2. Was the Atmos enabled phone louder than mine? NO! it was the same, which is at least something because I wouldn't be 'losing' max volume with that one.

I then tried the Xiaomi Redmi note 9 again in all variants in BKK shop. The result was the same as last time, ie noticeably not as loud as mine. A large Gent there was extremely helpful and totally understood my dilemma.

I'm investigating this Region /EU regulations matter but that doesn't make sense as mine is set to UK and is quite a bit louder than the Thai ones(maybe I need to switch it to UK!)

He recommended a Vivo V19(12000 baht, more than I ideally want to pay but ultimately would) that I will test next time as I was getting bored and frustrated so thought it best i went for a cold lager!

Yeah, it didn't taste as good as the one the other night so I rejected it and switched to Sangsom & Coke! Image Image

^ That article is 4 years old. I would think not much in it is accurate any longer?

Yes, I know I can "Google it" but if someone is actively researching phones, including their price would be helpful additional info for anyone else in the market.
