( do a minor banking transaction just before visiting the bank to get the current date stamped in your bank book)
I've said this several times before. You don't have to do a 'minor bank transaction. Most banks will give a current entry in your book automatically. If not, just ask them to enter a balance enquiry. I've never found a problem.
One way or another it’s necessary to have the bank book updated with the same date as they issue the letter and you apply for your visa extension - if the bank will do it without a transaction fine, if not a deposit/withdrawal of any amount will suffice.

Just come back from the bank. I was there for another reason. However, I asked about the immigration rule.
They told me that all the banks should know the immigration requirements. If when they update your book, there's already a transaction for that date then they'll do nothing further. However, if not then they enter a B/F line with the current date.
I've never asked for it (although I always check) but it's just one little aggravation you don't have to do yourself.
But as DB says, it has to be done whichever way you do it.

Yes it is! AND, make sure that the figure quoted on the letter is the same as the balance figure in your passbook, BEFORE you leave the bank! Ask me how I know!

I use the term deposit option of 800k Baht. It is not possible to make a "minor transaction" on those accounts.

I hadn't thought of that. Mine is also based on a term deposit of 800K which debars any 'minor transaction'.

When I asked at a small Kasikorn branch in Pranburi, they had no idea what I was talking about. So I made the deposit account at Bangkok Bank.

I think that's reflected in all banks. Different branches have different levels of knowledge/expertise.

You can't really go wrong with Bangkok Bank. I've been with them for over 20 years and NEVER had a problem. Always found them to be polite and helpful.

i suppose the logic of this same day requirement is that hypothetically you couldve emptied your account beofre going to Immigration Office and therefore have no money to support yourself

Anyway, i will go to the Bank(Bangkok Bank) one day next week and get my letters re my term deposit (nb with B/F!) and then go Immigration Office

Assume Immigation open today so hope queues normal on Monday

^ Yes it is. Monday won't be a good day to go to any immigration office. If me, I would wait until at least Wednesday.

I suppose by using the same logic, an extension of stay could be obtained and the account could be emptied the following day.

I wonder how those that use an agent due to insufficient funds or income support themselves?

Yes that is what I was worried about. Thanks for confirming.

So I'm guessing they will have been shut Wed Thurs & Fri. Three days of backlog

Doesn't the 800K have to be in your bank 3 months after extension and 3 months before applying? Then I believe it mustn't drop below 400K in the interim. Therefore, emptying your account will jeopardise your next extension.

Yes, good point.

I wonder how some agents circumnavigate that requirement.

Agents have contacts in immigration. Those contacts are paid from the fee charged.

I've been that route some years ago. The 'agent' in my case was an immigration officer. Another person taking a cut is an individual in the bank. I had to open an account in K-Bank as that was were the bank 'contact' was. 'Deposits' were made. A statement produced. Then the 'Deposit' is 'withdrawn. Money into the account is only on paper.

Not sure if that's the way it still works but it's probably similar.

I used an agent a few years ago. They wanted my passport and 2 pictures, no financial information. Turnaround time, including mailing, was 7 days
