Thailand confirms 111 new coronavirus infections, ramping up testing facilities nationwide

Thailand’s government confirmed on Wednesday 111 new coronavirus infections bringing the total number of infections to 2,369. It is a return to three-figure increases after two days of lower numbers.

The government said that 3 more persons, an American, a Russian and an Indian national, have died from the disease bringing the death toll to 30.

64 more people have recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recovered patients to 888.

Government spokesman Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin said that many of the new numbers were Thais returning from a religious festival in Indonesia. Government statistics show that 42 of the 111 new coronavirus infections came from the event.

According to Dr Thaweesin and the government, the resort island of Phuket has seen a sharp rise in the number of confirmed cases. The island has shut its provincial borders, stopping land and sea crossings and implementing a curfew but numbers continue to rise.

“We were buoyed by the previous lowered numbers,” said Dr Thaweesin. “But the new numbers show that we must keep vigilant.”

Following Prachuap's lead, the Provincial Governor of Petchburi has officially announced that all licenced hotels in the province have now been officially closed once their last guest has checked out (no new arrivals to be admitted).

I travelled to HH from Cha Am this morning and just before the Makro food store there’s a supposed check point on the main road, filtering 3 lanes into 1, but as BB experienced, the only people in sight were sat around tables feeding their faces - nobody checking anybody in their cars!!

I saw that the other day when I came out of Makro and went to U-turn, all that bothered me was the tailback it was causing, so I turned left into soi2 instead and came back down the canal road.

I saw quite a few cars u-turning there to avoid the check the other day. You would have thought they would have set up the checkpoint before the u-turn, unless they actually wanted to give people an out.

No, if you watch, most Thai roadblocks have a convenient u-turn or exit road beforehand. To get caught, people have to be stupid.

Has the Thai authorities said any number of maximum people to be gathered during these times? Like a private party at home with friends?

You really shouldn't be having 'private parties with friends'. Consideration for your friends would be not to invite them into your home.

It wasn't long ago that a 'private party' at a home in Hua Hin resulted in 2 positive cases and another 2 with symptoms. (They were visiting from BKK)

We call out people here for being stupid for not following the safety rules here. Just for comparison, I spoke with my son a few hours ago. He's in London. He went out for the first time in 2 weeks to do some shopping. "Tottenham High Street was as busy as it's ever been. The only way I could social distance was to walk down the middle of the road and move for the buses!"

I talk about the stupidity of Americans for listening to Trump, people that are gathering in groups on the beach for a few drinks, people having private parties etc. It would appear that people here with a much less of a problem are, in general, taking things much more seriously than my countrymen living in a so called 'rich, developed country'!

And new cases up nearly 2,000 on yesterday and new deaths up just short of 200. Its about time these knobheads who are flouting the regs are instantly put into quarantine camps for 2 weeks minimum. Bollocks to civil rights right now, this is serious shit. :cuss:
