They're already talking about bans and more lockdowns. Curfew and alcohol ban again next? The world is emerging from this pandemic and Thailand, as usual, is going backward. The junta is loving this!
There May Be No Songkran Celebrations If COVID-19 Kept Surging, Expert Warns

Replying to Bigston's post:
It was to be expected. Just look at the UK for example. They've pretty much got rid of all restrictions. Omicron sent their cases to over 200,000 daily and it's come down to a quarter of that. Deaths have remained steady.
Cases will be on the upward trajectory before coming down. That's what's happening elsewhere so we know what to expect.
Unfortunately, the government here continue with their knee-jerk reactions, whereas other countries are doing the opposite. Thailand has some of the strictest entry requirements in the world.
My daughter arrived in the UK a few days ago and although she had her vaccination certificates, she wasn't even asked for them. She breezed through with just showing her passport.

Insurers avoid travellers after heavy Covid losses
Insurance companies have become reluctant to offer Covid-19 coverage to foreign tourists as the industry was beset by a liquidity crunch after issuing many policies and experiencing a high number of cases the past year.
Tourists remain interested in the country, as new registrations for the Test & Go programme reached 119,807 as of Feb 8.
Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, deputy governor for marketing communications at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said following discussions with the Office of the Insurance Commission (OIC) over optional Covid-19 insurance for international tourists, only a few companies expressed an interest in joining the programme.

It doesn't help that the ASQ hotels and hospitals are jointly scamming the shit out of foreigners and insurance companies by running up massive bills when they test "positive". I wouldn't insure anyone going to Thailand either.

So very true. My daughter-in-law's treatment cost 400฿ + the cost of a few test kits + 10 days lost earnings. Amazing the ASQ hotels and hospitals create bills well in excess of 100,000฿.

Just a bit of worthless trivia. Yesterday was the first day since 19 December 2021 that reported Covid fatalities exceeded reported Road fatalities in Thailand.
