Premier League 2021-22
Re: Premier League 2021-22
It says something about Everton that in 2 years, two of the top managers in the game have left the club.
Ancelotti jumped ship at the first opportunity after finding the trajectory heading in the wrong direction, after having won only 3 of his last 12 league games in charge last season, after a good start. Injuries were an issue. But the signs were there!
Benitez also made a good start before it all went pear shaped. Injuries to their best players exposed the pitiful state of the rest of the squad.
The problem isn't only with the managers, it's with those running the club, as well as playing inflated prices for 2nd rate players.
Be interesting to see where they go now? But it's hard to have much synpathry for them.

Benitez is hardly a top manager in the game anymore and hasn't been for quite some time(Which top European team are going to employ him now?)caller wrote:It says something about Everton that in 2 years, two of the top managers in the game have left the club.

Carlo left because arguably the greatest club side in the world came calling again to reignite their love affair
Benitez is gone because he failed, miserably, to manage players... simple as that!
So whilst I accept there are unquestionably deep rooted problems at the club, the analogy you have used is a poor one IMO.
Other points you've made are valid and fair. "Over inflated prices for second rate players" is spot on. I can't help feeling something dodgy went on re Bolaisse Walcott and Iwobi. If you waste of half a billion then you get what's coming to you.
Btw, I don't know any Everton fan who is looking for sympathy

Well yes, but the point is, Evertons form at the end of last season was almost as bad as under Benitez in this. Real weren't worried about that. They knew the issue was not with the manager. Ancelotti was thrown a life line which he gladly took.thecolonel wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 12:52 amCarlo left because arguably the greatest club side in the world came calling again to reignite their love affair

Now that Benitez is gone, the talk will be about who will replace him - I’ve had a look at those on the attached and don’t fancy any of them that much. Looks likely that big Dunc will take temporary control until a decision is made.

Apparently Spurs have agreed personal terms with Adama Traore. Now just to agree a deal with Wolves.
Beast of a player. Best dribbler in Europe as of last season stats. Just a worrying end product is what lets him down.

Big Dunc will certainly inject some passion in the team. Won't take no shit either, the man's hard as nails. Read the other day that he dragged one of two armed robbers he fought off back into his house to hold until the police came.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 6:13 pm Now that Benitez is gone, the talk will be about who will replace him - I’ve had a look at those on the attached and don’t fancy any of them that much. Brentford have offered Christian Erikson a 6 month contract with an option of a further year. Would love to see Christian playing elite football again after nearly dying on the pitch during the Euros.

Without a doubt, the first football I had was a lace-up type and for sure when they were wet it was like heading a cannon ball, but fortunately by the time I was playing at the weekends we had the Mitre Multiplex type.Lost wrote:Bet those footballs hurt when you headed them right on the laces.![]()

PS. And my boots were hard leather that went over your ankles and had leather studs nailed to the sole - sometimes the nails found there way into your feet!!Dannie Boy wrote:Without a doubt, the first football I had was a lace-up type and for sure when they were wet it was like heading a cannon ball, but fortunately by the time I was playing at the weekends we had the Mitre Multiplex type.Lost wrote:Bet those footballs hurt when you headed them right on the laces.![]()

He'll be the next Victor Moses! Not an out and out attacker. Just needs someone behind hin to help with hiis positioning until he masters the art. Azpicuelleta did that for Moses.

Consecutive Puskas awards for the first time in its history. If that isn't a trophy for the ol' cabinet then I don't know what is.
