I think the horse is out of the barn and what they may try to introduce will be largely ignored, including beyond Songkran. I would predict that any attempted fines will get binned. They will fight to keep this emergency decree and any kind of control for as long as they can until people simply put their foot down and scream ENOUGH!

How many times have they told us this?

There will be a meeting this week to discuss restrictions during the Songkran period.

Chiang Mai to open entire province to overseas arrivals

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... s-arrivals

CHIANG MAI: The northern province is seeking approval from the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to reopen the entire province to new arrivals from other countries.

Foreign tourists are currently allowed to visit only Muang, Chom Thong, Doi Tao, Mae Taeng and Mae Rim districts and banned from entering 20 others.

Deputy governor Sakchai Kunawatchaiyadet said on Monday the province planned to allow visitors to enter the 20 remaining districts ahead of the Songkran festival to revitalise the tourism sector.

The proposal will be submitted to the CCSA for approval on Friday, the official added.

Mr Sakchai said the province was aiming to give all residents a booster shot by the end of this month to be ready for the full reopening.

Only 66% of Chiang Mai's 1.7 million residents have been administered with a third jab, according to the provincial public health office.

The province logged 311 new coronavirus infections and no additional deaths on Sunday, figures that were announced in the CCSA report on Monday.

The CCSA meeting on Friday is expected to relax restrictions and allow other activities to resume as the country prepares to enter a long holiday over the Songkran period mid-next month.

Ministry reports HK strain
The Public Health Ministry on Monday reported four cases of coronavirus infections which it suspects may be caused by a new mutant strain responsible for the worrying Covid-19 outbreak in Hong Kong, but assured that so far, authorities see no reason to be concerned.

Supakit Sirilak, director-general of the Department of Medical Sciences, said the majority of the cases found in Thailand in the current outbreak were caused by the BA.2 subvariant of the Omicron strain.

Out of the more than 2,000 samples that were sent for genomic sequencing last week, 99.7% were found to be the Omicron variant, with BA.2 sub-variant increasing from 52% to 68% and BA.1 sub-variant accounting for 32%, he said. Four, however, were suspected to be the BA2.2 sub-variant.
