The Meteorological Department on Wednesday morning issued a warning for people in nine southern provinces to prepare for widespread scattered rain with heavy falls in some areas and the danger of floods today and tomorrow.
The department said the northeast monsoon is now prevailing over the southern region and the Gulf of Thailand. This will cause widespread scattered rain on the eastern parts of the South.
People living near hillsides and waterways in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Trang, Songkhla, Satun, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat should prepare for heavy rain and flash flooding, it warned.
There will also be strong wind-generated 2 to 3-metre-high waves in the Gulf of Thailand. All shipping should proceed with caution and small boats should keep ashore today and tomorrow, the department said.

Three days of downpours have caused flash floods in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat and Yala and officials are readying for the possible evacuation of villagers living near the sea and rivers.

Strong sea waves slammed the seaside villages of Moo 2 and 3 in tambon Laem Talum Phuk, destroying at least 10 houses in Pak Phanang district of Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Many coconut trees were brought down while a 100-metre section of a village road was inundated.
The waves also left piles of garbage and seaweed carried in from the sea on the road.
Keeping a close watch on the situation, villagers are relying on a sandbag wall to keep the churning sea from destroying their communities.
Some home owners in the area may need to be relocated to safety if powerful waves continue to hit the shoreline, said Laem Talum Phuk kamnan Prayut Thanawattana.
Also in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Muang district has been inundated by flash floods triggered by torrential rain.
In tambon Ma Muang Song Ton, floodwater has reached 70cm at Ratpradit School, forcing classes to be suspended. Residents in Moo 2 in the same tambon are also encountering floods.
In Nakhon Si Thammarat municipality, canal-side communities also bore the brunt of overflow from main canals.
In Narathiwat, low-lying areas and some crop fields in all 13 districts have been flooded. The floodwater has spread to some roads in Muang, Rueso and Bacho districts, and only large vehicles can pass through the water which is 30-40cm deep in some areas.
Officials have been told to prepare to evacuate some families if the situation worsens, said Mahamaphi-sakri Wamae, head of the disaster prevention and mitigation office in Narathiwat.
Villagers living near the rivers are bracing for what is expected to be the worst flood in the province in three years.
In Yala, parts of Muang and Raman districts have been swamped.
Villagers yesterday woke up to see floodwaters on village roads in Ban Thung Yamu Moo 4 and Ban Bo Chet Moo 6 in tambon Yupo in Muang district. The flooding also forced Phong Chue Ruerae school in tambon Budi in Muang district to close for one day.

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Bit of a miserable day today, but as I was driving home it occurred to me that while much of the rest of Thailand was drowning in floodwater, we hadn't had any rain here for months. Did I fall asleep and miss the HH rainy season this year?
This is the way
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Rained in Bangkok today and last night, but looks like it is clearing up now.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
^^No, it happened in it's normal way between April and October. I remember a flood on Petchkasem road in front of the electric office where my SUV could only pass in the center lane and then just.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

So, can we attribute today's late morning rain shower to your musing?dtaai-maai wrote:Bit of a miserable day today, but as I was driving home it occurred to me that while much of the rest of Thailand was drowning in floodwater, we hadn't had any rain here for months. Not just the "upper". I'm sitting here wrapped up in a flannel shirt near Rayong where it's 18C with a strong bone chilling wind at my house at the moment.

18C or 64F may not seem cold to those from abroad, but it's cold to us here! There's been winds of 10-20 km/h as well in Rayong but they don't publish wind chill. I would say it feels like about 12c-53f at this moment. Pete
Two found dead as cold spell moves in

A cold spell is believed to have caused the death of a widow in Chon Buri and a man in Trat yesterday, while Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son have been declared disaster zones as temperatures plunge in the provinces.
Suna Chandadal, 49, was found dead inside a makeshift house at a coconut planation in Chon Buri's Sattahip district yesterday, with her 13-year-old son crying and hugging her body.
The boy, identified only as Ae, told police that his mother woke up early yesterday and had a cough as the weather was very cold. She died later in the morning, Ae said.
The boy and his mother lived on a land plot of a local leader after his father died from a chronic illness last year.
In Trat, Narinsak Khamwisut, 36, was found dead inside his house in tambon Wang Krajae in Muang district about 11.30am. He was believed to have died four to five hours before his body was found by his mother Wandee Chana-in. There were no traces of a struggle.
Witnesses said the victim had been drinking with friends in front of his house before he went to bed at 10pm. The victim fell asleep in his shorts without covering up with a blanket.
Police suspected a heart failure or cold weather might caused his death.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation yesterday declared Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son provinces disaster zones as residents in more than 400 villages have been affected by cold spells.
The cooler weather has hit a total of 431 villages in seven districts in the two northern provinces. Of the affected districts, six are in Chiang Mai.
The temperature on Doi Inthanon, the country's highest peak, dropped to 4C yesterday, with mae khaning (frost) found in mountainous areas.
Kriangsak Thanomphan, chief of the Doi Inthanon National Park, said thousands of visitors flocked to Doi Inthanon daily to view frost.
Temperatures at the Umphang and Thung Yai Nareusuan wildlife sanctuaries in Tak province plunged to 6C yesterday.
In Nakhon Phanom temperatures dropped to 9C yesterday. A sharp drop in the temperatures caused some 40 dogs out of hundreds recently rescued from dog traders by authorities to fall ill, said Pairat Prathumwan, chief of Nakhon Phanom livestock office.
A fund set up to help rescued dogs has recently provided about 200,000 baht to build a shelter, he said.
Of all the dogs saved from illegal trafficking to date, 721 have survived while 581 have died and 285 have been adopted as pets, an official said.
The Meteorological Department yesterday predicted temperatures in the North, Northeast, East and the Central regions, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, would fall further by 1-3 degrees Celsius from today.
The department also forecast heavy rainfall in provinces along the southern coast from Nakhon Si Thammarat southwards as the northern monsoon covers the South and the Gulf of Thailand. In Chumphon, waves as high as 3m destroyed an embankment in Lang Suan district yesterday, causing seawater to flood about 40 houses at Ban Hua Laem village.

Winter Solstice is December 22 at 1230 hours Thai time this year. The sun will begin its march back to my front yard, hopefully in time before all my grass dies.
Daylight hours will start to become longer. Make sure everyone arrives at the bar by noon on Thursday to celebrate the event.

Pete, didn't you know you're supposed to buy/build your house facing south in a cold climate like this to take advantage of the heat from the sun?
