I always buy COD using Lazada and I’ve always been able to get vouchers for free delivery or at least a contribution of normally ฿38 but for the past week or so, I’ve not been able to find any delivery vouchers - have they discontinued these or just made it more difficult to find them?

I know the heaser says Lazada, but we often drift to other organisations such as Shopee and Ali.

The company filling my computer with adverts (I have to switch adblock off when connecting to ITV) at the moment is Temu. They are offering the same goods at 50% off or better than the likes of Shopee and Lazada. Does anybody use them? Are they reputable?

My son has to make quite a big order very soon, and Temu prices seem to good to be true. He nornally buys direct from the manufacturer and already receives huge discounts on retail prices, but Temu prices are just so much less.

The saying “if it sounds too good to believe, it probably is” springs to mind. Like you I get inundated with Temu adverts and if you Google them, they get mixed reviews with some very positive but many negative reviews, e.g.

Is Temu a legit company?

Temu is legit in the sense that it’s real— it delivers real products to real customers. It’s not a scam site trying to steal your money. But legitimacy doesn’t always equal safety or reliability.

Plenty of buyers get what they paid for, but others run into issues—late deliveries, missing items, weak customer support, or products that don’t match the photos. Issues like these don’t always mean a site is a scam, but they’re the kind of red flags that show up in popular online scams.

so personally I’d be very reluctant to buy anything from them!!

Temu is just like Lazada, Shopee, Ali Express, another Chinese online marketplace. Stuff is likely to be very cheap because its fake or sub standard. Caveat emptor.

The UK consumer advice organisation “Which” is highly respected for its impartial reviews of products and services - here’s their take on Temu!!

Savings are so huge, it is very tempting to try them at least once. As an example:
  • Normal retail price - 950฿
  • My son's teacher discount price (direct from manufacturer) - 800฿
  • Temu price - 275฿
Another item:
  • Normal retail price - 1950฿
  • My son's teacher discount price (direct from manufacturer) - 1000฿
  • Temu price - 523฿
As I say - sounds too good to be true. I'm hoping to hear from somebody who has actually used Temu.

I realize everything has a massive markup in Thailand but they cant manufacture and ship most things for a quarter of the price ... so its likely to be a fake/copy of what you're trying to buy. Nearly everything on Laz is these days.

I recently bought a pair of JBL headphones on Lazada - they were obviously fake (shipped from China) at something like 10% of the genuine price but they arrived and worked - either Bluetooth or with a cable. Sound quality to this half deaf guy is perfectly acceptable - no idea what the genuine ones sound like, but I’m happy enough - if they’d have been total crap, I wouldn’t have lost a lot of money, so I decided it was a risk worth taking.

I accept it won't be genuine, but the stuff he'd normally buy isn't genuine either - actually, 'genuine' ADIDAS products at stupid money seem to self-destruct very quickly (rarely lasts 12 months), where as the stuff he normally buys does seem indestructable i.e. some of his 'frequently used' stuff is 6 years old or older - some dates back to 2016.

The dilema we have is he has to buy 4 new sets, which would normally cost him 2,850฿ per set, but a set from Temu would cost 1,403฿ - a total saving of 5,788฿.

It is sounding as if Temu are as reliable as Lazada or Shopee. I think it might be worth a punt.

Why don't you just order one and compare the quality to what you ordered previously?

The Lenovo Livepro L75 earbuds I bought on Shopee were around 25pct price of the real thing on AliExpress and sound fine. Excellent battery life (both case and buds) which is one of the main ways I judge many types of electronic knockoff goods.

Sound quite reasonable, could never say it's tinny; nowhere near my JBL Reflect Flow Pro earbuds, but as they were four times the price of the genuine L75s I can't judge the knockoffs by that.

I'm happy to buy this type of stuff on Lazada, Shopee etc. if I'm confident that I can return quickly if they are a clear disappointment. I've never had any return rejected by them.

We've just realised, the Temu offer is time limited, with just 9 hours left to run. We've bitten the bullet, and made the order. Will let you guys know what the verdict on the product is when it arrives. Only 4,522฿ altogether for 10 items, so even if they turn out to be useless, it isn't too much to lose. Just one genuine item from ADIDAS would most likely cost that, and we know they don't last. Worth the gamble in my opinion.

Looking at the correspondence critically, Temu talk up their security a lot. They say all data is 100% secure. Then at the bottom of each communication they write:
Temu does not ask customers for additional fees via SMS or email.
Don't believe fake "lost package" SMS that requires payment.
I wonder, if their data is so secure, how will anybody know to contact me for additional fees, or to advise I need to pay a lost package fee? That message seems to spoil it a little bit.

They usually don't. They just send a few million mail/SMS, hoping a small fraction of those messages will reach someone doing business with the company, and a small fraction of that small fraction will be fooled.

It's so cheap to send these kinds of messages, so they don't use a marksman since a shotgun will do.
