International vaccine news.
Several large retailers, in the US, are allowing vaccinated customers to shop without a mask. However, nowhere does it mention how they know someone is vaccinated. I guess they take your word for it. I can see vaccine passports on the horizon. No vaccine, no passport, no shopping.

You need a Yellow Book. Take the Yellow Book into the local Tessebahn, and ask. You will have your pink card in a few minutes.

Ok. What is a yellow book and where do I get one, what is it's purpose, is it necessary, is it for White Devils only or do Thais need one.
I tend to shy away from government paperwork so I don't know anything about that.

It is a fairly useless document, which is quite hard to get. I did it simply because I could, and I documented the process, which is very time consuming. If I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't bother. Read the link, and if you aren't put off by the time you get to page 2, I wish you the best of luck.

If you live in the sticks (such as Bang Saphan), I believe the process is very easy/straightforward.

Out of curiosity, what happens if your parents are dead? Do you name the grave yard they're buried in?

Back to vaccinations. I did my signup using the Line app, which is awkward and not easy to read; especially if you're old. There is a better option with the หมอพร้อม (mor prom) mobile device app. For Apple devices it is only available in the Thai store, so I had to switch from the US store to the Thai store to get it. You can use it to register, make an appointment, change an appointment, keep track of your vaccinations, etc. It's all in Thai.

So, if you're going to register and make an appointment online, this is a much better option than the Line app.

Providing you’re fluent in Thai, which many people on this forum aren’t!!

Yes, personally, I've given up with online registration. Walk in sounds much easier to me, and actually a system more akin to Thailand. However, my family are still trying, and have advanced my registration considerably to the point they got my wife's to i.e. FULLY registered, but unable to make an appointment. With my wife, the hospital phoned her with an appointment a couple of days later. I won't hold my breath.

My family have been battling with online registration for a couple of weeks now. Technology should make life simpler. Reminds me of 90 reporting where I tried over 200 times before walking down to Bluport. Thai IT is very hit and miss. In my case, more miss than hit.

I neither speak nor understand spoken Thai. For me, spoken Thai is just an endless buzz of unintelligible noise. However, I’ve found it useful to be able to read to the extent that I can deal menus, road signs, product labels, simple forms, etc. One doesn’t have to be anywhere near fluent to read simple Thai. Once you get started it become pretty easy to use dictionaries and other translation aids to figure out words you don’t recognize.

That said, I often find that even though I know every word in a phrase I still can’t figure out what the heck it means.

Exactly, I couldn't get the (cr)app to work either and I can read Thai and have been working in IT for the past 25 years.

As an addition to my post about registering without the app, our local clinic (in the same province) stated that they will accept farangs without the pink ID card using just a passport and address details. Not sure if this is the case in Hua Hin (where everything always appears to be more complicated/expensive).

Being on 'the list' could still entail a very long wait though, but will report back if/when we get an appointment (they did say I would get it at the same time as the mrs). Only time will tell.
