I second that. I saw a city rat near Patpong one night long ago that had it's rear paws on the ground and the front paws and head over top of a medium size garbage can, looking inside for goodies. I actually thought it was a cat or small dog in the darkness, greasy grey looking thing.
Country rats are a different story all together. You don't have to go to Issan, just outside Bangkok in Chachengsao they serve them in the market. Where rice fields are, so are the rice field rats, small, brown and plump.
Civet cats are what caused SARS in HK and southern China, stay away from them. Pete

I was chatiing to a guy when down in Panage who is fro Hua-Hin as well. Turns out he has a small place in BonKai called Violet Moon. He's Italian and from he was telling me the prices are really good because he's not in the center of town. Maybe worth checking it out or you can wait for me to give an update as I will be going to give his food a try.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that he spends half his time her and the other half back home. When he goes back to Italy, the wife and kids go with so at that point you'll only get Thai food.

The thread on Pasta Factory has put me off trying it but I must say Lo Stivale opposite Hilton has been superb every time!
Only had one gripe with the head waiter leaving the door open every time he went through wasting the air con! One of the young girls kept shutting it after him once I had pointed it out. Great food!

HAve found Lo Stivale ok, nothing special in the past, my last visit will be my last; left a meal there not so long back as it was terrible. They had used margarine for garlic bread and the chicken fillet i ordered was one of the frozen/processed will not go again.
Mama Mia/La Villa have always served better food in my opinion.
New Italian down by the piers is good also.
Had a great meal last night at Ciao in the Marriot, first class quality meal and a lovely setting - on the beach. Not cheap but for a treat i would highly recommend. Will try the pizza next time and let everyone know.
Dont order wine by the glass - it costys more than a main course!!

Not sure which thread you mean but I've had many a delicious meal there. It's a bit pricey (about 800 bht for 2 if you steer clear of the cocktails) but it's a good munch and let's face it, sometimes you need a bit of a treat.
Following the recommendations in this thread I had a pizza at Lo Stivale two days ago.
For a start I didn't like the tone of voice that the waiters used towards the waitresses, like throwing commands at a dog.
Second, I didn't like the pizza. It was perfectly baked, with a crusty base, but the base did not taste like pizza dough. Worse was that my Tuna-Oregano pizza contained very little tuna or oregano.
Third, five hours after eating it, I could still feel the pizza in my stomach. That night I woke up feeling sick. I had to go to the bathroom three times to vomit. The rest of the pizza raced through my body through the usual exit.
So I'm on three prescriptions now. Won't go to Lo Stivale again.
Ah, maybe the dangers of reviving old threads? The favourable comments for Stivale were from Jan '06 and time moves on. Sounds like your pizza was made around then as well.

Dirk, it sounds like you were lucky there was no more tuna on your pizza, it would probably have killed you!

Perhaps. On the other hand, there was so little on it I could hardly taste it. If I had got the actual taste of the tuna on my pizza I would have spat it out and stopped eating it. Not elegant, but I have done it before, although that was with meat not fish.

Ok it is an inexpensive place, and I realize that some of you gourmet purists might not classify it as an "Italian Restaurant" ( I know I wouldnt call Pizza Company an Italian Restaurant!) But we go there often and have never been disappointed. (Lovely linguine al pesto, crisp crust REAL pizza, nice chicken soup.)
I think it is the best pizza in town. . .I had some for breakfast just yesterday (left over and it was still delicious)
Besides the menu, it has a lot of old-fashioned charm and it reminds me of "the way things were" and of what Hua Hin must have been like many years ago. (Nostalgia. . .sigh)
No AC, but certainly the most entertaining place in Hua Hin to sit and watch the passing crowds. The owners are very, very nice people and we always get smiles and friendly service whenever we drop in. An added plus. . . there is always parking nearby at the beach entrance.
I agree with the previous vote for Ciao Restaurant at the Marriott for a splurge! You can't beat it for luxurious ambiance, excellent service and exquisite food.. . .but it IS very expensive, especially if you have wine!
One poster on this thread asked about the Pasta Factory thread. .not sure what it was called but there is a thread here with a huge and often amusing discussion of "Basil" and the experiences of many people who have eaten there.
