Really depends upon what they use Maggs. Victoria Harbour in HK and surrounding waters are not much calmer. They use a hovercraft HK to Shekou and a hydrofoil HK to Macau. I've been on the former many times in low gale force weather and it rode nicely over the water. They really need craft like that for speed also as to make the service convenient. Pete

In early 2008 I was in Hong Kong, Shenzen and Macau as part of a young Journalist Seminar of the importance of Hong Kong as Media Hub and News Headquarters for so many News Agencies.
When we departed from Hong Kong to Macau we took one of these Jetboats on hour 1 Hour journey across the Straight. accompanied by light to semi moderrate rains.
Ob our way back from we arrived @ the Hong Kong Marina Pier which is just a Stone throw away from the Hong Kong Marina Shopping Mall which used to be the biggest prestiguise in Asia but now overtaken by BKK's CentralWorld Plaza.
I think to use these Jetboats to cross from Hua Hin to Sattahip could be a solution NUt I'm no Maritime expert.

I read on another site that construction of a new marina has started in Cha-Am. Could that be where the receiving pier will be?

Although good for Cha-Am, I would hope not. That's a long haul into HH for those coming over for a day or two to enjoy what the town has to offer. Make the taxi guys happy though and as with everything here, everyone and their Mothers has probably made a deal to get in on this in some way.
Now, if most passengers will be golfers I guess CA or HH makes little difference. Pete

Errr.... This Speed Boat doen't seem to as slick looking like the Jet express from HK to Macau I had hopped on. Lets see when it arrives in Hua Hin next months.

My current permanent house is in Tunisia which has had an influx of Russian tourists lately. En mass they are the most ignorant, arrogant, worst dressed, pushy bunch of visitors to this country. The bars, restaurants and shops dislike them as they have the least amouint of spending money of any group. God help Hua Hin if they arrive in numbers.

I believe the boat was constructed here locally US and you are right, it doesn't have the lines etc., and probably not the speed.
No need to worry about the Russians et al at present. More reports recently indicated that Pattaya is empty of them at the moment, down more than 80% from last year. Pete
