What has Hua Hin come to?
Glad to see this one is still running although it seems to be turning into another rant against mafia type property developers.
They appear to bear the brunt of the "dodgy business" accusations and probably rightly so - a house is the largest purchase most people make, though some of the ones on here who are wealthy enough to throw their cash into it without researching anything need a wakeup call.
Magazines and this website to an extent are vehicles for advertising, as someone said above, if they could pick and choose who advertises I'm sure life would be rosy for them. It also seems that the dodgier developers also have more money to throw at advertising and paying off whoever they need to in order to continue their practices in the "land of smiles".
To reiterate my thoughts its sad that Hua Hin has come to this and so much malpractice occurs here and even sadder that nothing can be done about it.

it's not all totally negative procyon,
maybe now, people who read & visit this forum have been made more aware of the potential hazards involved in buying property in thailand, especially the newcomers.
& hopefully now, people will be more careful about who they deal with & who they hand over their hard earned cash to!!
although my personal opinion is, hh is still a great place to be

amen to that rnr i have taken up cudgels with vested interests on this website if i have thought that the WHOLE truth was not being told or asked questions that needed answers not because I thought they were crooks but because as a member of this website i would feel a modicum of resposibility to anyone who used this website to get them selves informed and then got conned
for the lame brained dozy and drunk that come here on holiday and pay large deposits on houses with credit cards and NONE NIL ZERO attempt at getting themselves informed tough they are on their own
however those that do try to find out and use this website deserve the members to be honest tell the whole tuth and be as accurate as possible
IN MY HUMBLE OPINION of course

My view
And I'm not a potential buyer, would be for a new fledgling to seek out the reputable guys for advice. They can then PM them and maybe meet up
Personally I know of 3 who I would approach feeling comfortable
All too easy to relate east to west until you have lived here a while

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

A little perspective here folks....
For 9 years I lived in Bruce Grove in London...the "nicer" bit of Tottenham.
In all those years I lost count of the drive by shootings, stabbings, muggings and general streetcrime....
I lost count of the number of shops and businesses attacked and sometimes burned out by conflicts between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots and incoming Romanians and Somalians....
A lass I knew was attacked and raped on her way home - 3 streets from me....at 7pm in the evening.
The week I moved out there was a driveby at the end of my street....3 people injured.
The day after there was a headline plastered on one of the local papers...."Bruce Grove Murder Capital of London".....
I move to Reading. Live there 3 years.....two girls abducted gang raped and murdered. My mate gets hospitalised by pissed arseholes in a pub argument. My mates boat gets vandalised twice...the second time they holed the hull and we took two days to refloat her.
So lets get a bit of perspective here....
Yes HH seems to be getting a bit rowdier since I first came here in 2002. Yes the arsehole farang count is going up. And yes....when you get uncontrolled development of ticky tacky houses that all look the same there are some swine who cut corners and screw the innocent.
But really? Turn your eyes back homewards and tell me this isn't heaven in comparison. It isn't Patayya or Patpong by a long stretch -those places makes my skin crawl.
I home to see my mum and dad, and every time I land in the UK my heart just sinks.....and I start counting the days till I fly back here...the place I call HOME.

Good sensible posts
I've always maintained that I can walk down the streets in Bangkok feeling safer than walking the streets of London 'MID DAY'
when over there my daughters insist on me taking their partners as bodyguards
Thailand is tame by comparison
Hopefully some future government (not a Blair/Brown job) is going to have the balls to crack down
I used to love my homeland and to a degree still do but it's gone beserk

Going to cry in my turban now

not only Hau Hin
What has happened to the world, seems like the whole friging planet is in trouble, just too many people making babies, people are starting to scrap like dogs, trying to get their piece of it.
Back to the topic of dirtbag falangs and bad business ethics I read this disturbing article today:
Why are these assholes allowed to stay here?
http://www.huahinreport.com/Hua Hin business man assaulted
A well respected Hua Hin business man was assaulted at 20.30 on Monday as he crossed Petchkasem Road to purchase milk for his son. The assailant attacked him from behind and proceeded to drag him into the traffic on the main road using his motorcycle. The attack happened in full view of local market vendors at the busy intersection. The attacker was identified as a Mr Trevor Rudd by the victim and local police, it has been reported that the British man has also made a number of intimidating and threatening motions towards other local business people and their respective businesses. It was revealed that this latest incident was the result of jealousy over the victims successful business operations in Hua Hin, Mr Rudd has been warned twice previously by local police for harassment.
Why are these assholes allowed to stay here?
This guy has been mentioned in conversation on many occasions in many places and always bad from intimidating bar owners into buying his wares to making physical threats to any one who doesnt agree with his views.
I usually dont take much notice into Bar Talk, but in this case all seems to be true about this guy
This obviously is a nasty peice of work and doesnt desrve the pleasure of being able to stay in Thailand never mind Hua Hin

Ex SAS !
any self respecting serving or ex serving SAS personnel would not let this be public knowledge
Ex Para !
Reminds me of the Monty python film with the guy who is a story teller going for crucification, when he is asked his occupation he says " story teller" and the Roman guard writes down and says "Occupation, bullshitter"
