Life starts to return to Ban Khun Phor. Chairs and tables out. Can sit and eat. One bar open. They say take away, but I bought one beer and he opened it, 555! Had to drink it while waiting for my food.

Re: Coronavirus Precautions/Updates - Hua Hin
There are still complaints about a shortage of face masks in the news. Has anybody else had the following happen:
A couple of days ago there was a note in my Condo mailbox notifying me that a registered letter that needs signing for was in the complex office. I went and picked it up to find it was a brown envelope with Thai Postal Service logos on it.
When I opened it there were 2 face masks inside sealed plastic bags inside with a Ministry of Industry logos and several lines of Thai writing on them. They appear to be good quality soft white cotton masks, quite a bit larger than the crap ones that I bought from a pharmacy.

We had ours delivered by Thai Postal yesterday, a box containing just one mask, similar in appearance to the one described by Nereus together with a half litre hand gel

You've got to laugh at these noddy flyers the Thai PRD are producing ... (and why the F they're in English is beyond me).

Next restriction easing set for May 17
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... for-may-17
The government plans the next round of easing disease control measures and reopening of big premises on May 17 while maintaining restrictions on returnees and efforts to reduce crowd gatherings.
Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said on Thursday that the centre would gather opinions about the next disease control relaxation from Friday to next Tuesday and draft the relaxation measures next Thursday.
"The relaxation will come unless the [new Covid-19 case] number soars," he said.
After the first round of relaxation and reopening of small premises on Sunday, the second round of easing and reopening of bigger premises with many visitors would hinge on the cooperation of people and operators with disease control measures, he said.
Dr Taweesilp said that on Thursday CCSA agreed to continuously restrict the number of returnees and reduce crowd gatherings, the main factors of ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infection in the country.
"Most local infection cases in the country came from infected returnees and people in close contact with them," he said.
"Covid-19 is spreading in other countries and the countries that ease their disease-control measures experience a new wave of infections," Dr Taweesilp said.
The first group allowed to return home will be those who are ill, stranded at airports or have expired visas, as well as those who are tourists stranded in other countries. The next group will be monks on pilgrimage, students and laid-off workers, he said.
To reduce crowd gathering, CCSA would maintain strict measures against drinking parties, impose staggered work hours and campaign for working from home.
"Some public offices apply two shifts with 30-minute staggered hours but there should be more work slots... Working from home should be applied to at least 50% of workers," Dr Taweesilp said.
He added that CCSA was also considering the closure of daycare nursing homes to reduce people's movements.

That's all well and good if there is an alternative. More often than not, there is no alternative. That's why they're in a nursing home surely? He added that CCSA was also considering the closure of daycare nursing homes to reduce people's movements.
A nursing home is able to provide the level of care that even family can't give. Let's see how this one pans out.

Sorry, this is simply stupid. The city with the highest number of infections opens a venue that will fail miserably with distancing and any kind of adequate protection/prevention. What the hell are they thinking, or another case of backhanders.
Bangkok’s Chatuchak weekend market is reopening
https://thethaiger.com/news/bangkok/ban ... -reopening
Chatuchak, Jatujak, JJ, whatever you choose to call it, Bangkok’s legendary weekend market is reopening tomorrow. The massive indoor/outdoor market, popular with both Thai and foreign tourists, will reopen this weekend after weeks of being shuttered, but visitors will be required to observe physical distancing and wear face masks…. you know the drill.
Walaya Wattanarat, deputy permanent secretary of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration says that this weekend the market will be open from 5am to 6pm, for shops selling everything from garments, souvenirs, shoes and decourative items, to food, snacks, secondhand items, ceramics and more.
She says City Hall is providing standard preventive measures, including temperature screening at all entrances, sanitiser gel for all visitors and physical distance markings, adding that the public toilets will be cleansed every two hours.
Chatuchak is famous for its crowded, tight corridors and extensive shopping selections, including wet markets which are now under considerable scrutiny following the likely outbreak of the pandemic in a Wuhan wet market. Apart from being a live ‘petrie dish’ of potential viral transmission, the wet market section of Chatuchak has a notorious reputation as hub for illegal businesses selling protected wild animals smuggled from across the world. The wet market has not been specifically addressed in the BMA’s announcements.
As for food stalls, Walaya says the BMA is emphasising takeaway services, but stalls with seating will be required to separate diners by at least 1.5 metres.
Stalls selling garments, shoes, bags and other similar items must limit the number of customers to 5 at a time, or 10 for larger stalls.
In addition to Chatuchak’s main weekend market…
• The Mix Night Market will open daily from 12pm-7pm (beginning today)
• The Plant Market will open on Monday and Tuesday, 9am-6pm
• The Fish Market on Wed from 9am-7pm

Some may think that "they" are allowing the opening of this market in the hope that there will be a spike in infections in order to re impose previous measures. Let's see.

Re: Coronavirus Precautions/Updates - Hua Hin
There was never a spike even before the lockdown. But I’m sure they will want to drag this on for as long as possible. It keeps those pesky students from protesting.
Re: Coronavirus Precautions/Updates - Hua Hin
I was chastised by the wife when voicing my opinion on this. Her position is that they have to let these poor people (stall renters) earn a living to keep the peace from going out the window. She may have a point. It's a risky gamble imo, but it's also a test to see if this virus is really on the back foot. Stay tuned for new infection numbers during the next few weeks. I hope we see no increase because of these type of openings.
