Yesterday. I witnessed the latest change to the regulations. At small restaurants you can now sit at a table to eat whereas before it was only possible to order food to take away. Progress you might think! However, the muppets who come up with these regulations limit it to only one person per table! So the husband and wife on lockdown in the house together for several weeks now cannot sit at a table and eat together .......you have to wonder how they arrive at these rules. The penalty to the cafe owner for breaking this rule is a fine of 100,000 baht. Yesterday I witnessed couples being turned away from tables on the pavement and clearly angry at the futility of it. Only in Thailand......

Maybe after been locked up together for weeks they are happy not to have to look at each other.

Over the weeks for various reasons, I have visited Hua Hin Hospital where the canteen has remained open throughout for seated customers. From the start they had to set their seating plan to comply with the post lockdown arrangements. Their tables and chairs certainly allow 2 per table. The only thing I can think of is the tables in the restaurants you have seen are too small i.e. do not provide the necessary distancing. I seem to remember that 1.5 Mtrs was mentioned somewhere (could be wrong).

Yes but the point being made is that the family have been stuck in their house together and now when they venture out, they are being forced apart. The only “logic” is that neither the restaurant owner or authorities know the details of the people dining, without rigorous checking, so I guess it will never happen.

But the problem is, TIT. Give any leeway whatsoever, and mayhem breaks loose. They didn't cancel a bank holiday, but told people to stay at home recently, so thousands took to their cars and travelled. You have to draw a line.

Maybe the restaurants could push tables together, staying within the rules. Still 2 people at 2 tables, but the tables are together.

Of course, not just a Thailand problem, people are breaking rules all over the world. When it's happening elsewhere, rule breakers are being called idiots, selfish, etc.

The main difference I see is that people here are more afraid of the police taking money off them than any virus, as there are stupid fines for every minor indiscretion. Whereas in the west, the police do not have those powers so people flaunt the rules more. Thailand is a dictatorship remember, freedom has always been a luxury.

I don't disagree with that. However, the impression I get from the Daily Briefs (am I being brainwashed?) is that companies have to register with local Tessebahns before re-opening, and the Tessebahn will inspect. To date I think there is something like a 6% non-compliance.

My point is, if owners are receiving complaints, surely they have a Tessebahn contact who can clarify things.

I went out today at around 14:15 and the queue for the daily 'giveaway' at Corner 112 restaurant was already longer than I've seen before with a few hundred people. More than 2 hours to go. I came back around 15:30 and the police had just arrived. Travelling up my soi, the queue had gone past the next 2 sois on the right with lines of shoes across both soi's.

Went to 7/11 30 mins later and they've all gone. Seems the police cleared the lot. Some had waited for over 2 hours so I'd imagine there'd be a few long faces.

10 out of 10 for the owner's good intentions, giving out free food and crayons and colouring books for the kids. Sometimes 'food tokens' that can be used in Hua Na market. However, it does invite crowds with no social distancing in place.

Rather than send the police to wield their power and close it down, I would have thought that the Tessabahn/police could afford a few officers/volunteers to control the queue. An action like that would have done more to endear the public's perception of the authorities and earned them kudos.

Isn't that what the order stated? All free food had to be either given to the Tessebahn to distribute, or contact had to be made with the Tessebahn to ensure rules such as Social Distancing were complied with.

AFIK permission was obtained from the Tessabahn. Recently, food was given to the Tessabahn for distribution and the same thing happened. No social distancing. Too many people. The police closed it down and dispersed the queue.
So even the Tessabahn can't do it right.

Such a simple solution. Use the police to help, not destroy. TIT.
Let's see what the Mayor's reaction is. I have heard that he will be informed, although what I heard may not be the truth.

My daughter had her picture taken with the mayor handing her a bag of rice a couple of weeks ago. PR could go a lot further than a random photograph.

I stick by my earlier post.

If the Tessebahn were advised, then my understanding was they should ensure rules are being obeyed.

In Bangkok, people are placing wooden cabinets on the streets. Anyone can put food or other supplies in them and people can take what they need while leaving something for others. It's working out well. No police needed.

I looked on Corner 112 facebook page. First time I've looked at it. There are dozens of pics of them giving away 'stuff' in different places around HH. Many of the earlier give-aways had 'social distancing' down to a tee. I guess the owner became too successful which caused it's own problems. He's obviously spent tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands helping the local community. My family said that 112 often appear at local markets giving stuff away.
Quite interesting looking at the pics just to see the vast quantities that were being prepared. It's a shame that the whole effort and generosity is rewarded by a 'slap on the wrist' rather than the 'powers that be' getting involved for the 'greater good' and offering some support with a 'joint venture' or something similar.

I'm curious about Handrummer's post regarding 'wooden cabinets on the streets'. I would have thought that would lead to greed and rat infestations (they're clever little creatures) as well as insects.
