It was freezing cold and as miserable as sin, even cuddling up with my girlfriend couldn't keep either of us warm. The small crowd in the huge open basin that was the old Bridge, meant you could here a pin drop, as we could from our usual spot in the then West Stand. I hated every minute of that game and subsequent one's with Wigan always leave a sense of unease.

true enough, but then we're not really competing on a level playing field are we?
the money wenger spends next year will come from club revenue, same as the stadium & academy centre, not from an outside source & we won't be going into debt over it either .
as for wigan at home tomorrow? as final fixtures go, it's a plum & i expect a comfortable win without breaking to much sweat

A happy Christmas to you too, RZR!
Is the grass not green, the pitch near perfect, all presented in the same way?
If not, I can't begin to imagine what you are alluding to?
I remember when Chelsea were really in debt - and I still have the worthless shares to prove it, although they do get me an invite to the annual shareholders meet and dinner at the Bridge, usually hosted by some legends of the recent past.
Well done to Chelsea.I think they just about deserved the title and have been playing some excellent stuff since the Inter Milan result.
And a special thanks to Wigan for making such a fist of it,trying to deny Chelsea and keeping us all on the edge of our seats !
We're all on our uppers,we're all going skint,
I used to suck fat cigars but now I suck Polo mints.
Did anyone notice the cameo of Seb (Lord) Coe, caught on TV watching avidly from a seat in the stands, not in the elite directors, et al, box? It does remind me of those days when we were broke and he was a huge star and running discos in front of 100/200, if that, in the then fairly new East Stand at the Bridge, to raise funds for the club.
I well remember going for a beer in the Barmy Arms, on the river at Twickenham, when with a few mates, we were discussing the merits (or otherwise) of Harry Harris, who used to be a Chelsea hater writing for the Mirror, when the then Mr. Coe walked in with his girlfriend and joined in with our conversation at the bar. I don't think his G/F was amused!
There's a British advertisement running on TV here now. I think the subject is the world Cup. The speaker makes a very profound statement saying something like..."...in life you can marry, divorce, buy a new car every year, move house......but the football team you choose to support as a child stays with you for life...it's in your veins..."
Is this really true? How many of you still support the same team you did as a child? Pete
