Just FYI.

My extension based on retirement was set to expire on 29 June 2023, but I decided to renew it today – 7 June.

First, I arrived at the Bangkok Bank in Cha-Am at 08:30. I requested the two documents required for Immigration using the 800,000 baht in the bank method. It took about 20 minutes, and that included them updating my bank passbook with a B/F entry, and making a copy of the last page of the bank book. The cost was 200 baht.

Next, it was on to the new Phetchaburi Immigration office – nice building. I had previously made an appointment online through this link:

Phetchaburi Immigration Office (office365.com)

When you enter the Immigration building there is a document review station to your left. Go there first, and then you will get a number for the queue. I submitted the following to Immigration:

1. A completed TM 7 Form with a picture.
2. My passport, and a signed copy of each page that had data on it.
3. The two Bangkok Bank documents.
4. My Bangkok Bank passbook, and a signed copy of each page of the passbook.
5. I am married to a Thai woman and we own a house.
(a) A signed copy of my wife’s ID card – wife’s signature;
(b) A signed copy of the Bluebook – wife’s signature;
(c) A hand drawn map showing the location of our house – both of our signatures.
6. A 1900 baht fee.

I walked out of the Immigration building at 09:55 with an extension until 29 June 2024. I am very pleased with the process and service that was provided by both Immigration and Bangkok Bank.

I completed another successful visa extension today. However, it was probably my worst ever experience with Thai Immigration (still easy compared with experiences reported by others). I went armed with my usual renewal pack (same as reported last year).

Firstly, following on from last year's discussion, I was asked why my pack included proof of pension and P60. I was told these were no longer required, so hopefully that closes the loop from last year's discussion.

Secondly, it was confirmed I was the unluckiest person in the world. I got to the downstairs checkpoint where the rest of you guys get pleasant young college girls. I got a 50 year old Rottweiler today, and just as ugly.

She went through my papers, and said, "No good." I did not meet 'her' financial requirements. Now I do my renewal based on monthly transfer. Over the last 12 months I've transferred a minimum of 75,000฿ each month plus have made additional transfers to cover £5K of dental work, a £5K Bangkok Hospital bill and 3 dog operations costing 20,000฿, 35,000฿ and 65,000฿. I had Credit Advices to cover each transfer. I haven't done the maths, but must have transferred double the necessary amount in the last 12 months. I was baffled.

She went through my Credit Advices again, and literally threw 7, 1 at a time, across the desk at me. "These are not good," she said. Her reasoning was the Kasikorn header on the documents were not consistent with the others. I tried explaining they were as Kasikorn had issued them. She was adamant I couldn't pass go and move upstairs. I had failed to meet the financial requirement to extend my visa.

I was initially stunned, and sat there in silence. I gradually composed myself, grabbed my documents from her, and told her she was talking bollox, and I was going upstairs anyway (what did I have to lose?). She shouted after me that I was wasting my time, and my visa couldn't be extended. I just continued upstairs.

I took a number, and sat down - there were 5 in the queue in front of me. My papers were in a mess after the way I had to retrieve them, so I sorted them back into a presentable pack whist I waited.

When I was called, I just put everything on the counter, and without a word being spoken, the officer checked everything (very slowly) and I think there was a sigh of relief when I saw him stamping my passport.

I pointed the lady who gave me grief out to Mrs BB, and she said she'd seen her before, and she basically goes out of her way to upset people. She certainly succeeded with me.

So, I'm legal for another 12 months.

What a dreadful experience, and well done you in going upstairs and getting proper attention.

Do you suspect she was after a donation towards her own tea fund?

Going the "fast track/agent" route for a little extra negates ever having to deal with the fascistas downstairs, but appreciate that some don't want to do this out of principle.

Hope you waved the new extension stamp at her on the way out!

At the time, corruption didn't enter my mind, but now, I have been thinking the same.

Having spent years as a senior manager with the UKBA I found this sort of behaviour by a, albeit relatively small, number of unprofessional Thai Immigration staff particularly difficult to swallow.
I also found that the inconsistent interpretation of Thai Police Orders, depending on which member of staff you drew on the day unacceptable, how l kept my mouth shut I’ll never know.

Being a retiree with the correct finances in place, there should be no need to go the "fast track/agent" route. The process is very straight forward, and Immigration have been very helpful a couple of times in recent years when I haven't crossed the t's or dotted the i's. Retirement extension is usually quite a pleasant experience for us wrinklies. OK, I was riled today, but once I'd got to the proper Immigration Officers, everything was good again.

I did think of waving the extension stamp in her face, but decided completely blanking her was better.

For those of you with a collection of Credit Advices waiting to cash in for a visa extension, this is what she found acceptable:

and this was thrown across the table at me as being not acceptable:

They’re obviously both quite different - maybe the “acceptable” one has the date on it somewhere, whereas the “unacceptable” one does have a date. Other than that, I think it’s a bit weird - the first one has an office address but looks like a copy, whereas the second one has no office address but looks like an original?

The main thing is that your able to legally suffer Thai injustices for a further 12 months!!

Yes, both copies have exactly the same information, but I've not shown a lot because they have a lot of personal information. If she genuinely thought one was different to the other, she was in the wrong job, because you have to question what she was actually checking. She could not have been looking at the detail.

Ever since we've had to get these credit advices, mine from Kasikorn have always looked like the ones that were not accepted.

In fact, thinking about it, the girl at the bank messed things up last year in as much as I went back the day after ordering everything and she hadn't done the main advices correctly (think I only had the first page). So she had to redo them all while I waited and some at the end did turn out in a different format but were acceptable to everyone at Imm, even the screening department - obviously I didn't get the meanie.

Hey ho, if I run into trouble later in the year, I'll bypass downstairs as BB did.

The last time I did my annual renewal I asked the lady downstairs if I could get a re-entry permit as well. She said I need the form and again all the copies and a photo, so I said I will go to Blueport where I just need my passport. When the officer upstairs was processing my extension, I asked him for a re-entry permit, which he issued without any further paperwork.

Visa Extension / Renewal Opening Times

Post by bigston »

Can anyone please confirm that the big complex that does all this is open at 8.30 ?
if not what time.

Is it a bunfight at opening time "usual human behavior " of fairly orderly getting in to get a number

Thank You.
