and now UK Government said non essential travel banned stopped for 30 days. Airports closing soon.
Obvious huge effects on travel etc.: -

This is a Breaking News story. As they say at the bottom, we'll update more when the Bangkok Post does.

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... e-songkran

The cabinet on Tuesday approved plans to postpone next month's Songkran New Year holiday and to close schools to limit the spread of the coronavirus, a government spokeswoman said.

The approvals followed a series of plans announced on Monday to close schools, bars, movie theatres, cockfighting arenas and other entertainment centres as well as postpone the Thai New Year holiday, which falls between April 13 to 15.

"The cabinet approved that the Songkran holiday be postponed and schools closed," Ratchada Thanadirek, the government's deputy spokeswoman, told Reuters.

She added that closures of entertainment venues would be up to the discretion of each provincial governors, adding that more details would be available later.

Here is the "More to follow" bit:

The measures announced on Tuesday cover six areas:

Health

Foreigners coming from the six places defined as Covid-19 infected zones — South Korea, China, Macau, Hong Kong, Italy and Iran — regardless of transport modes, must have health certificates issued in previous three days and health insurance coverage. They must also agree to install and use an official monitoring mobile application.

The measures also apply to those coming from places with ongoing transmission — France, Spain, United States, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden, Britain, Japan and Germany.

This group must have accommodation in Thailand where they can be reached.

Both groups will be subjected to a 14-day quarantine. No more details are provided at this stage.

In addition to foreign visitors, all inbound Thais are to use the app. Those staying abroad are also urged not to return home during this time.

All civil servants and state officials must not go abroad except for emergencies. They must also instruct people to refrain from going to risk and contagious places.

Medical supplies

To cope with the spread in the impending Stage 3, adequate medical personnel, equipment and supplies must be procured.

The production of face masks and hand sanitisers will be ramped up. A campaign will be held to urge people to use cloth masks in public places instead of surgical masks.

Face masks seized as evidence in court cases will be added to the supply to be distributed later.

Online trade of the products must be monitored to prevent hoarding.

Information

The Public Health Ministry gives only medical and health information while the Covid-19 Information Centre gives the overall picture in all aspects.

Foreign affairs

The Foreign Ministry will set up “Team Thailand Covid-19” in each country to take care of Thais there, to be led by ambassadors.

Preventive measures

Universities, tutorial schools and all educational institutions in Greater Bangkok will be closed for two weeks from Wednesday.

Boxing arenas, stadiums, horse racing tracks in Greater Bangkok will also be closed until the situation improved.

Pubs, entertainment venues, service places and theatres in Greater Bangkok will be closed for 14 days.

During the closures, action must be taken to clean the places and implement preventive measures.

Provincial governors and communicable disease committees will consider suspending concerts, trade fairs, religious and cultural activities and sports events in their provinces.

Malls, markets, restaurants, public offices and state enterprises remain open but are instructed to take preventive measures such as surface cleaning or use of thermo scanners.

Songkran holiday (April 13-15) will be delayed until further notice.

Frequencies of public transport services will be increased to avoid congestion.

Inter-provincial mass movements such as by military personnel must be avoided, including those of migrant workers.

Government offices will adopt overlapping working hours and home-working and use technology such as teleconferencing.

Provincial governors and Bangkok governor may restrict movements and impose measures to reduce risks as they see fit as empowered under the Disease Control Act.

A disease control operation unit will be set up in every district and village with participation from the private sector.

Remedies

Related agencies will come up with measures to help businesses such as hotels or factories if the operators are asked to delay layoffs.

Financial institutions will be asked to help people with instalment payments burden, as well as small vendors, daily-wage earners and farmers.

This appeared on facebook. Nothing official. But facebook is the biggest source of rumour mongering. Strange, my daughter told me a couple of hours ago that there was one in Bon Kai who had caught it off a farang but they can't find him. My wife came back from the market about an hour ago and said everyone in the market are talking about 9 new cases in Hua Hin.
Then the post from fft100's wife has come up with 15 cases.

I'd take everything with a large pinch of salt. By the morning it'll be 100.

Now I'm being told that it all came from the Night Market. Then someone else said it's all in Kun Pho's

Unbelievable!

Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health said on Wednesday that it has confirmed 35 new cases of covid-19 bringing the total number of cases in the country to 212.

It is the fourth straight day where cases have risen by 30 or more patients.

Young people infected

No mention of Hua Hin

The ministry said that 13 cases stemmed from a boxing bout at Lumpini Stadium in Bangkok on the 6th of March.

Four were from entertainment venues in the Thonglor area the night of an infamous party where 11 members of the same group were infected. Four were from the hospitality sector while remaining cases were from close proximity to previously infected people.

Rather than initiate panic, can we park this one please until it is confirmed by a reliable source or it just fades away?

The rumour is there, we have not removed it, but there is nothing to be gained by exacerbating the situation until we know for definite. Any further unsubstantiated reports of the rumour will be removed until substantiated.

Thai prime minister says he is prepared to shut down country,

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha told reporters on Wednesday that he would be prepared to shut down the entire country if Thailand reaches stage 3 of the coronavirus outbreak.

The government defines stage 3 of an outbreak as having mass person-to-person transmissions in multiple regions of the country.

Wednesday was the first day of the governments partial shutdown with schools and universities shuttered indefinitely. Bars, clubs and other entertainment venues would also be shut until the end of March.

“The measures that came out is not a shut down but more of intensified measures to restrict movement of people,” Prayut said.

I really can't understand why they won't provide a breakdown of where the cases are? It would help to stop the rumour monging. On one official document I have seen, which seems to be in wide circulation, Pkk as listed in the high risk category with 34 other province, but why?

Korat now seems to be issuing figures which don't make a lot of sense to me - 14.3.20 suspected infection 148, no infection 141, wait for result 7, in hospital 22, return home 125 and there is the app that is Bkk centric which lists the cases from other sources where outbreaks have been reported, but omits any mention of Korat.

Just an update on Korat, 2 confirmed cases now (at least) and pics of someone being taken into hospital.

My brother in law, an Aussie, is stuck in Morocco. So I thought I would find out what the situation is there, via wiki. There is a detailed breakdown city by city of the number of cases in each, plus details of the 2 deceased.

If Morocco can do that, so can Thailand.
