It took you 14 years of domination..... To work out that it wasn't for you.....

You are either a glutton for punishment..... Or not as bright as I had given you credit for....

And you tell me to stick to join the dots....

You should be on stage.... Your better than Harry Enfield......

My wife is just (nearly) finishing up the building of a nice house up in Issan. She's the general contractor and it will be finished in about 3 months from tear down of the old house to a move-in ready new western equipped home of excellent quality. It took me three years to do that in Hua Hin... of course she is going to go 100% over budget...

But, the point is that other than designing the floor plan on my computer, she went there and spent 10 hours a day 6 days a week on site for three months and got the job done with only a little input and advice from me via photos, email, and phone. She has the confidence to do anything and tackle any job small or large (she single handedly repainted our previous 500+ sq. mt. home inside WITH A BRUSH).

Although I have to watch the financials closely as she still seems to think money grows on trees, there's nothing I wouldn't trust or depend on her to do except handle the credit cards or check book and that's not because she would unduly appropriate any money, she just still doesn't understand the concept of how hard it is to accumulate.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

No...... You are completely thick....
I was married to an American retail professional for 14 years, steeped in management BS, perfectionism and assertiveness training, who had read the 'How To' book on marriage and her expectations were totally unrealistic and impossible for me to meet. I should have walked out after a week
I should have walked out after a week
But you didn't...... And stayed 14 years.....

you want to redress.... Who you are calling thick.... ?

You because you fail to realize that a throwaway line, with the benefit of hindsight, is not the same as how one feels at the time. Now try not to come back yet again with your dominatrix or sexuality fixation.

Spoken like a true patriarch.

Is the culture matriarchal or patriarchal? If she is doing the work and he is sat drinking with the lads, then I would say patriarchal. If she is selling her finest asset to buy mag wheels for his truck or pay his gambling debts, the same. If she has been raised to do the work it doesn't sound to me like she is the boss. Only the hired help. The amount of domestic violence against women is high. What about the representation of women in Parliament? Or the behaviour of women in the workplace? I have visited many factories and offices and seen the men being deferred to. Patriarchal through and through.

I doubt very much if any 20-something nymphet would touch elderly foreigners decaying or diseased carcasses if they had financial security. 'Give me your money or I won't give you my body'. 'Give me your body or I won't give you money'. The power politics is as simple as that.

Women may command the home and may be pushed into the role of decision maker by foreign men who can't speak Thai but within Thai society, at least, I'd say the power still lies with the men.

I think you'll find this country/government is actually run by a man - her brother. :banghead:

Okey dokey lets have a look at the unscientific poll and give it a bit of anal izing

Traditional values/relationships being MARRIED

4 men wearing trousers one who is not married leaves three
3 obeying er indoors
12 on an equal footing
1 a fairy liquid addict

so lets cut to the chase (oh all right op i will let your vote count but only cos its your op)
4 wear trousers and 16 wear shorts in other words it is 4 sensible men (shorts in this climate is eminently more sensible) to 1 trouser wearer
There are thousands of men travelling to Asia, Eastern Europe and South America seeking women with traditional values.
so where have these thousands of macho ego driven men gone

It is nothing to do with being macho or ego-driven. There are many marriage/dating agencies doing good business and have been for years.
