Bill
I take it you do not live here, but just come for a vacation.
If you want all the things you say you do, then why dont you stay in America.
Or if you really feel the need to come to Thailand then why not stay in Bangkok. I am sure that Bangkok can cater for all your needs.
Most of us came here for the charm of Hua Hin, if i had wanted the bright lights i would have moved to Pattaya.
How on earth can you love something you have never seen or visited, perhaps what you really mean is that you love the idea of the mall.
I agree about the boredom factor and am happy to be able to go bowling, but the cineplex will mostly show films in Thai.
I can only think that your post is tongue in cheek.
Mike.

Give me all the modern world stuff. Blast down the bar area and put up more hotels,
Oh just in case your crappen in your panties at the mere notion of the BARS going down , well you can take it to the bank. That land is to valuable and it won't be long before BYE-Bye. as will the gals.
Why did you go here and what did you do to make your stay more pleasant?
Why put up more hotels? Do you find hotels attractive and exciting?
You obviously had some bad experiences with the bars here.
Maybe the girls refused do stay with such a bored and boring person?
I personally stay in Hua Hin just because of the relaxed atmosphere and the nice people living here. The only missing technological gizmo is a faster internet connection.
The rest either I don't need or I don't want.
It's a good life and I simply love staying in Hua Hin.
Welcome back bill, but before you go; befriend a shrink and bring him/her with you.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.
Come on guys, no need to be defensive - I am completely at ease with the 'snivelling rat bastard' bar-fly in me and also with the bit of me that wants more home comforts - even if it is at the expense of local 'charm' when I am in Hua Hin. You have to admit - Soi Bintabaht is hardly charming, despite the amount of time we all spend there!
Must say I had a bit of a chuckle at Bill's post, which touched on some points I have made on this forum but perhaps I have put them a bit less aggressively than Bill!
The thing about Hua Hin is that it caters for most tastes - if you want beach you've got it; if you want beer & fanny, you've got it; if you want western restaurants, you've got it; if you want temples and elephants, you've got it etc. etc. etc. The mall (which I have yet to try) surely just adds to the mix of what is, after all, a tourist destination!

Now that's interesting, comparing Blackpool to Hua Hin!
To me, the former is a s**thole, a sad out of this world type of place. Never, ever, do I want to go there again or its "posh" neighbour a little South. I also felt it a place where an omnipresent sadness weighed down lot of the families who went about their business on holiday there. It was their holiday, they'd saved so hard for it, and they'd arrived in hell. And worse, they couldn't afford anywhere else.
God help everyone if HH morphs into that!!!
It will be interesting to see how the powers that be market HH in the next year or so. Currently, from the UK, you have to work a little bit to get there, unless on a package for the top hotels or spas.
I hope it stays more like TTM hopes, rather than what Bill expects of the world we live in.

Short for 'buttie' or, translated into American; buddy. Comes from the buttie (or buddy) system down the mines, where you always looked out for your 'buttie' and he always looked out for you.tuktukmike wrote:Never understood why the Welsh call people Butt.
It is specifically a South Wales coalfield thing, rather than a generally Welsh thing. Cardiffians would not use the term, preferring 'mate' or, less so these days; 'skip.'
Seems relevant to me - comparisons drawn & discussed between Hua Hin and different places.Norseman wrote:How the heck did this tesco Lotus thing turn into some Welsh-talk? Are we in Caernarfon, Blackpool or Hua Hin?
