Re: Huge explosion rocks central Bangkok - casualties reported
according to the latest news, the pier remains open and they're trying to recover pieces of the bomb from the water. It bounced and went off in the water apparantly causing no damage.

Are they saying that it was thrown, thus bouncing into the water? If so, someone should for sure have seen who.HHTel wrote:according to the latest news, the pier remains open and they're trying to recover pieces of the bomb from the water. Re: Huge explosion rocks central Bangkok - casualties reported
The report I read says it was thrown from Thaksin Bridge at the pier and bounced off the car park into the water where it exploded.

"Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha vowed to bring the culprit who he condemned as a bad guy"
Surely something's been lost in translation there. "A bad guy!" Did anyone think it was caused by a 'good guy'
If he really said that then our beloved prime minister speaks yet another gaffe'

It's now being reported that this guy with then without his backpack is not a suspect - HE IS THE BOMBER!
Maybe some intel we don't know about.
Surprised it wasn't a couple of Burmese workers in the frame!

You don't have to be Einstein to forecast a negative effect on tourism.
Even though martial law was lifted some time ago, tourist numbers have not bounced back.
And killed tourists are definitely not going to get Thailand tourism back on track.

One thing not to forget is,
Though 20+ innocent souls have perished, they probably, for the most part, died instantly. No pain. Of the other dozens and dozens of wounded, how many of them have life changing injuries which will require months and months of pain and determination? How many survived, but have lost limbs or will lose them? How many are physically scarred for the rest of their lives? How many mentally scarred?.
Right now, we just here the word 'injured'.

Re: the suspect in the yellow shirt. I wonder if they have been able to trace his route to and from the shrine via other CCTV? He's quite distinctive. Or maybe he didn't make it?
Edit - scrap that last bit. According to my other half he was traced to Silom on the back of a bike!
I've been in Bkk since last week and security here is a joke. I go through so many monitors as I enter stores, the MRT and so on, the alarm always goes off, no idea why, but I'm never pulled back, even when I'm carrying a shoulder bag.
The new Emquartier store opposite Emporium is a case in point re: bad security. The entrances from Sukhumvit or the sky train all have scanners you have to pass through. But if you wander up soi35 (I think that's right), you can enter the store through 4 different public entrances, none of which have any scanners and only I appears to have any security.

HK says avoid Bangkok... China wants answers... not PR BS...
Even the second bombing would scare the sh*t out of any tourist who were there...
