Don't mention the war

Post by charlesh »

Perhaps the russians could play the Bosch as well, despite the other matches. Stalingrad revisited ! The Russians could bring on their secret weapon - the Women's team and overpower the gerries at 1/2 time.
Is there any real football played in Europe at this time of year??

understatement of the year!!
quite possibly the worst german side ever? completely outplayed by the turks in almost every department :?
quite fortunate to still be in the game at half time, but . . it's a funny old game :D

close one to call tomorrow, have to stick with my original tip spain but if the russians play like they did against holland, it could be adios!! :D

The Germans have a reputation to be the champions of the last minute goals.
During this tournament this strategy was successfully adapted by the Turks. It only didn’t work against the inventors of this strategy.
The definition of football by Johan Cruijff: “It is a game where 2 teams kick the ball around on a field and at the end Germany wins”. He is still right.
My real final is tonight and my favorite is Hiddinks team.

Unforruantely yes. Ballack. Now a future Chelsea player would be interesting. With two Spaniards and two Ruskies up for grabs after the tournament and Roman with his cheque book out it's a possibilty.

What has been good to see, is the goals scored in the semi-finals. Since the present format was introduced in -96, there haven´t been many goals scored in the semi-finals (4 being the most before this.) As for the world cup the last time that 8 goals were scored at this stage was in 1982 when Italy beat Poland 2-0 and Germany beat France in the penalties after the score after extra time was 3-3. There´s something to think for those of you who support the best team in the world which unfortunately have the worst managers year after year.

The trend appears to be teams peaking too early. Each time a particular side has shone, they've flunked the next round.

Germany haven't shone yet.

How will Espana fare? :?

peaking too early

I know how U feel! Perhaps they should all be given a dose of the little blue pills which I am told work rather well ha, ha.
I am rooting for the Russians - they need to have something going for them and what's more they didn't kill my Grandfather.

For whom the bell tolls

Now the Gerries play the Torriadors - what would Hemingway say? Something along the line - I hope they kill each other. Don't mention the war!
As for the Russkies - no doubt a tactical withdrawal until the Olympic games. They must be waiting for the Big Freeze to occur?

Well done Spain for killing the Ruskies.

Now do the same with the krauts.

Hopefully the resolution at the back and the skills at the front will overcome the Germans.

Cream always comes t the surface.

I hope Wanderlust is predciting a German victory.

So the Spanish won it - deservedly!

But what a strange game? The Germans started well then couldn't get out of plod mode after the first 20 minutes or so, when the Spanish were first able to put their foot on the ball. In due course some looked really out of their depth?

Ballack was a huge influence but hardly featured in the semi and it was then announced he might not make the final - can one player make such a difference? He certainly didn't look fit this evening and the paucity in the Germans quality became apparant with their subs - was it worth bothering?

Some of the Spanish footy against weak opposition was sublime, just a shame it wasn't a better contest.

The referee was a bit of a clown as well.

But well done to the Spanish. I've loved the Country ever since an inter-rail trip many a long moon ago! Even though me and my mate weren't allowed to wander around the Bernabau(?) and ended up watching a bull fight in Madrid instead!

Viva Espana!

44 years without a trophy is over. A deserved goal and win from a guy who must be rated now as one of the top five strikers in the world.
