So the fisherman’s friends flew his ashes to Thailand and turned them into a bait that snared a huge 180lb catch."

Japan wants foreign tourists to avoid 'public flatulence'

TOKYO - A Japanese tourism board has called on foreign tourists to refrain from public "belching or flatulence" in an etiquette guide which was hastily rewritten, reportedly after complaints from a Chinese resident.

The Hokkaido Tourism Organization, which represents Japan's northern-most island, published a downloadable brochure on its website, with polite instructions on everything from public bathing to using a Japanese toilet.

Helpfully, it even dedicated an entire section to protocol for avoiding bodily functions.

"Japanese etiquette is based on avoiding causing discomfort or nuisance to others," the guide points out.

"Accordingly, Japanese will avoid bodily functions such as belching or flatulence in public entirely, or perform bodily functions as discreetly as possible."

However, the Chinese-language guide -- originally entitled "Common Sense When Travelling in Hokkaido" -- upset a Chinese resident who angrily claimed the diagrams featuring examples of bad tourist behaviour were offensive, Japan's Kyodo news agency reported.

The complaint prompted a new, foreigner-friendly version with softer explanations of Japanese customs.

In the updated guide available in Chinese and English, gone are the large 'X'-marks next to cartoon illustrations of tourists committing, from a Japanese perspective, embarrassing gaffes, such as putting used toilet paper into the waste bin -- the general custom in China -- instead of flushing it away..........>

Carpageddon: Australia Plans to Kill Carp with Herpes

"The Australian politician who declared war on Johnny Depp's dogs has a new enemy - the European carp.
Barnaby Joyce, the deputy prime minister, said the only way to get rid of the "bottom-dwelling, mudsucking" fish was to unleash herpes on it.
The A$15m ($11m; £8m) eradication program, dubbed "Carpageddon" by the government, aims to rid the Murray-Darling Basin of carp.
Mr Joyce's spirited rant was met with laughter in Australia's lower house.
Carp were first introduced to Australia in 1859, but numbers exploded in the 1960s after an adapted fish-farming strain was accidently released into the wild.
It's estimated carp make up around 80-90% of the fish biomass within the Murray-Darling Basin, Australia's most important agriculture region.
The carp are prolific breeders that compete with native fish.
Their toothless jaws mean they need to feed at the bottom of rivers, which causes erosion and makes the water turbid, reducing water quality."

Attaporn Boonmakchuay was smiling as Thai television stations interviewed him in his hospital bed about the intimate intrusion, and doctors said he would recover. But photos of his blood-splattered bathroom in Chachoengsao province, east of Bangkok, were testimony to his ordeal.

The 38-year-old told Thai TV Channel 7 that he struggled to remove the snake for 30 minutes Wednesday before he managed to free himself with help from his wife and a neighbour. After his wife tied a rope around the snake, Attaporn pried open its jaws before passing out. ... "

Seagull dyed orange after falling into vat of curry

A seagull in Wales has been dyed bright orange after it plunged into a vat of chicken tikka masala at a food factory.
The bird is believed to have fallen into the vat while trying to grab a piece of meat from a bin.

It was rescued by staff and taken to the Vale Wildlife Hospital near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, to be cleaned.
Washing up liquid was used to remove the bright orange pigment from its feathers, but that failed to wash away the smell of curry.

“We had never seen anything like it before,” veterinary nurse Lucy Kells said.
“The thing that shocked us the most was the smell.”

The bird, which has been nicknamed Gullfrazie, is to remain at the centre until it is well enough to be released.
