It will be interesting to see how long the Thai Enquirer is allowed to publish.

I suspect it's not run from Thailand.

I would agree, caller. Better if it's run from outside of Thailand. However:
Cod Satrusayang is editor in chief of the Thai Enquirer, which is due to launch on January 15 with a blend of journalism, criticism, fiction, satire and poetry. Bangkok based, Cod previously worked at Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Reuters and Asia News Network, and has reported across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

Well, Boris is closing down everything. Bars, pubs, cafes, restaurants, leisure centres, theatres, clubs, gyms, etc.
The only shops to remain open are supermarkets and pharmacies.

At least he's moved from 'advice' which nobody was listening to and putting some teeth behind these measures.

Speaking at the same news conference, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced stricter measures to enforce social distancing, including the enforced closures of pubs, restaurants, theaters, cinemas and gyms.
They're also going to pay up to 80% of wages of employees that remain on a company's payroll.

Although it's not mentioned in this link, my daughter tells me that only supermarkets and chemists are allowed to remain open.

Found this while researching an article today, could be a useful tracker but appears to be compiled from data supplied by governments which is highly questionable, especially in Asia!

At last, someone in the media is asking how many *extra* deaths covid-19 will cause.

Such figures have been bandied about for a while. Some models show lower and some higher. These are computer models which depend very much on the data input.
One model a little while ago put the infections at 60% of the world population.

Basically, nobody really knows.

USA leading the way in new cases and new deaths.

Thailand 4th with 89 new cases.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

89 new cases in Thailand: the largest single-day rise in cases since the outbreak began in January. Most are related to a boxing match and various entertainment venues in Bangkok, while 6 are a group of Thais who traveled to Malaysia for a Mosque event

Another interesting article by Thai Enquirer....

Whistleblower raises questions about Thai government’s Covid-19 numbers

A recent Facebook post alleging that the government lied about the source of Covid-19 infections is ripping across social media in Thailand.

For days, Prayut Chan-ocha has been resisting calls for shut-down on the basis that Thailand has not yet reached a ‘Stage Three’ covid-19 outbreak, defined as “rapidly spreading with considerable patient numbers at the community level.”

But the Facebook post, allegedly written by one of the now infamous ‘Thonglor 11’ Covid-19 cases, argues otherwise.

At 10 AM local time, Facebook user ‘Santi G Lawyerlife’ shared his experience contracting Covid-19 as one of Thailand’s first cases, concluding that it is not the virus itself, but the government’s response that is the scariest thing about this pandemic. It has since been shared ten thousand times, with five thousand likes and two and a half thousand comments.

To the main question: were he and his friends drinking and sharing cigarettes with a sick visitor from Hong Kong on February 29, as declared by the Public Health Ministry?

The headline answer: no. It was a case of local to local transmission, in which some Thais did not exhibit symptoms. ‘Santi’ himself had no contact with any Hong Kong national during the late February period in which the partying allegedly took place.

This contradicts the current narrative of the Thai government, which maintains that it is able to trace every current case to its source. More importantly, it contradicts the implicit narrative that the government has tried to highlight – that the cases have come from abroad (the ‘Thonglor 11’ were referred to as the ‘Hong-Kong incident’ by Dr Sukhum Kanchannaphimai, permanent secretary for public health) and beyond entertainment venues and cases from the boxing match, there are few cases being transmitted at home.

Coming soon to Hua Hin?

MALLS CLOSE

Bangkok’s Governor Asawin Kwanmuang and the Coronavirus Outbreak Action Committee ordered the closure of all Bangkok malls and markets from March 22 – April 12, after Saturday’s numbers were revealed.

Only supermarkets, pharmacies, and takeaway restaurants will be allowed to stay open at the malls.

Places, where groups of people congregate, will also be asked to close including internet cafes, spas, golf courses, driving ranges, massage parlours and more.

GOV’T CONSIDERING EMERGENCY DECREE AS NEW 89 CASES REPORTED
Emergency decree may be enacted soon to impose a lockdown of Bangkok in a bid to stem the coronavirus epidemic, government sources said Friday.

The measure is being discussed just as health officials on Saturday say 89 new cases of confirmed infection were found, a sharp rise from daily tally in recent days.

The 2005 Royal Decree of Emergency Situation will be invoked if the situation continues to worsen, and armed forces may be mobilized to impose travel restrictions in the capital city, sources say.

The decree empowers authorities to ban travels and close down buildings without warrants.

The Bangkok City Hall on Saturday also ordered shopping malls to close for two weeks, except food courts, supermarkets, and pharmacies inside.

Restaurants are also instructed to drop dine-in services, though takeaway and delivery operations will be allowed.

Here comes the avalanche ... they won't be able to cover this up.
