It doesn't look to me like the car suddenly pulled into the middle of the road:

Chiang Mai teenager killed on brand-new big bike

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... w-big-bike

CHIANG MAI: A high school boy died after slamming his newly-bought big bike into an oncoming car after a van pulled out in front of him in San Kamphaeng district.

The accident happened on Chiang Mai-Mae On Road in tambon San Kamphaeng on Tuesday morning after Thanakrit Lasao, 17, left his house on his new Honda CBR650F motorcycle for San Kamphaeng School.

Surveillance camera footage (below) showed a van suddenly pull onto the middle of the road in front of the big bike. The teenager swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid the van, but almost immediately collided head-on with a Honda City car. The impact sent Thanakrit flying through the air before falling to the tarmac, about one kilometre from his house. Rescue workers rushed him to San Kamphaeng Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Media quoted Pokin Tejakhod, the boy's 65-year-old grandfather, as saying that he had promised to buy the boy a big bike if he studied hard. When the boy did so, Mr Pokin delayed the purchase, saying he was worried by previous reports of fatal big bike accidents, but Thanakrit insisted on it.

The grandfather finally bought the bike last week, saying he did not want to disappoint his grandson, whose life had been been difficult following the divorce of his parents.

19 hurt in minibus-oil tanker crash

Passenger bus travelling at high speed rams tanker preparing to make a U-turn

CHON BURI: Nineteen people were injured, two seriously, when a Bangkok-bound minibus they were travelling in rear-ended an oil tanker in Sri Racha district on Saturday morning.

The crash occurred between Road No 7 and Road No 331 in tambon Nong Kham, said Pol Maj Khanin Insorn, the investigation chief at the Nong Kham police station, who was alerted at around 10.30am.

Police and rescue workers found many injured people lying along the side of the road. Eighteen passengers and driver Amnart Kaweesaeng were rushed to a nearby hospital. Two were seriously hurt.

The front of the minibus, which operates on the Bangkok-Bowin-Ban Phae route and had Rayong licence plates, was badly damaged.

A 22-wheel trailer truck was found 10 metres away from the minibus. It was carrying 40,000 litres of diesel from the Thaioil refinery in Sri Racha to Lampang when it was struck, said driver Thonglor Ouiyuta. Fortunately, there was no oil leak.

A police investigation found that the minibus, carrying 18 passengers, had left Bowin for Mor Chit in Bangkok. It was travelling at high speed when it rammed into the oil tanker, which was about to make a U-turn.

The force of the crash caused all of the passengers on board to sustain injuries. Mr Amnart suffered leg injuries.

If the minibus had been a passenger van I suspect it would have been carnage. Minibus or passenger van, the drivers' habits are probably much the same. Get in the fast lane and doze.

I read this yesterday and the article ended with (from my memory so not exact)

"It must have been a special kind of oil slick that, in that short distance, it accelerated the car to high speeds."

Must have been edited

'Kan Kluay' art director killed in Bangkok car crash

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -car-crash

An art director of animated movie, Kan Kluay was killed when a Honda CRV he was driving crashed into an electric pole on Rama IV road in Klong Toey district early on Thursday.

The fatal crash occurred near Kluay Nam Thai intersection in Phra Khanong area, said Pol Maj Gen Kaweewat Apiwat, investigation chief at Thong Lor police station, who was reported at around 5am.

Police, forensic officials and rescue workers rushing to the scene found a white Honda CRV with Bangkok licence plates had crashed into a roadside electric pole. The driver's body was trapped in the wreckage.

The man was later identified as Patchanu Noree, 44, art director of the popular Kan Kluay animated film about a baby elephant which grew up to serve King Naresuan in his elephant duel with a Burmese king, Thai media reported.

A city cleaner of the Klong Toey district office said she heard the sound of car brakes and then a loud bang at around 4.30am. She initially thought a car might hit a house or a motorcycle. When she went to take a look she saw the CRV had crashed into the electric pole at the curve.

Police were examining CCTV footage and forensic tests to find the cause of the crash. The officers initially believed the driver might have travelled at a high speed, causing him to lose control of the car.

Family tragedy, chartered van hits tree

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -hits-tree

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: Four people were killed and seven severely injured when a chartered van taking a family from Ratchaburi to Yala crashed into a tree on the median strip of the main highway in Muang district on Monday morning.

The accident happened on a downhill section known as Thung Kratai hill at Ban Bueng in tambon Ao Noi of the Phetkasem Highway about 7am.

Police said the white Toyota Commuter van, registered in Ratchaburi province, smashed head-on into a tree, uprooting it. The driver's side and roof were ripped off. Its rear still rested on the highway, partially blocking the lane to traffic.

They suspect the van was going too fast or the driver dozed off, and it veered onto the tree-lined median strip.

Two people were found dead outside the van. The driver was dead at the wheel. Nine injured people were rushed to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital, where one was later declared dead.

The three dead passengers were all women, and so were five of the seven injured people.

Police said the passengers were all from the same family. They had chartered the van in Ratchaburi to visit Betong district in Yala.

Those killed were identified as the driver Boonmee Deemangkorn, Patcharee Po-ngern, Apiwan Chorphetthai and Porn-usa Roopkhamdee. The injured are Sompong Po-ngern, Prathum Klomlert, Kimcheng Po-ngern, Saman Jitphan, Somsak Po-ngern, Somsri Noiprasit, Urai Po-ngern and Somkiat Po-ngern.
