Most single Isaan women want a Western husband

Actually I would say bar girls INcluded if it wasn't for the obvious financial reasons. Title of the thread is apparently the outcome of a survey, therefore not per se misleading.
On the other hand I do not really believe it either:

domestic appliances - another factor that attracted single, northeastern women.

I know a guy who visits Pattaya frequently but he has to talk a lot and sometimes even pay extra to make the women use his electrical appliances.

All in all, interesting thread this one but there is no end to it. The camp that keeps emphasizing that Thai women would never be with a farang if they had a fair choice and then the other camp that says they would because "we do not gamble, are not lazy, are faithful, respect them, do not beat them up like ALL Thai men do, etc. etc."

Will be unreliable from the start. The outcome of a survey is effected by where it is done, how it is done, and in Richard's case especially by who it is done. They will all tell him they prefer a farang (if they do not Richard will lose face!), but if the poo yai baan conducts the same survey they will all prefer a Thai men.

I remember a "field study" (I think that was Richard too) regarding preferred nationalities. Believe me, the women really cannot be bothered with your nationality as long as all their financial needs are paid for. Of course there is always this one girl that really (dis)likes Germans, Dutch, Swedes, English or whatever nationality, most of the time based on a single personal (good/bad) experience.
And of course many professionals know that the average farang likes to hear that all Thai men are pretty much worthless, and that the English like to hear that all Germans are rude and overweight, and the Germans like to hear that the French are not showering and avaricious, and the French like to hear that the English are always drunk, noisy and looking for bar fights with their football shirts tied up around their waist.

I from my personal experience however know at least one German who is very polite, one Frenchman who does not smell and bleive it or not even an Englishman who is not drunk all the time.

Seriously, whenever I've been to my wife's village, I always leave with quite a collection of photographs and contact details of ladies wanting a Western man. These are not from bar girls, but from Isaan women wanting a Western husband. They want the security and loyalty they believe marrying a Western man will bring.

You have to remember that one of the biggest issues with Thai women seeking western husbands revolves around our different attitudes to looking after their children from past relationships.
Most Asian men generally are very adverse to doing this, whereas to many western men it's not something we seem to have a big issue with.
Perhaps one of the reasons for this is that quite a high proportion of western men who find themselves in Thailand also have children from the past.

Also, a lot of Thais think children born of a Western/Thai marriage are the best looking and therefore have the best chance at a good life. Just get your wives or girlfriends to point out how many Thai movie stars or models are "half/half".

I have never asked directly. Been told by the wife of the ones who do want a farang husband. Why? Security, take care of them and children and elderly family better than a Thai husband. Very few are after a lavish lifestyle from the farang wallet.

Many know that many farangs have children from previous farang marriages and that the farang has to take of them and does.

many people generalise about Thai women with the thought that they see us all as walking ATM's. Not true in most cases (ignoring B/Gs) they realise that we do have commitments at home and therefore they appreciate that and view you as a caring man

I'll throw in that we all might be looking into this too deeply. The culture battle is over, western culture/lifestyle has won, ie micro-waves/pretty housing estates/washing machines/BMWs/cornflakes for breakfast etc etc and they have it forced down their throats everyday on the Tv and are now supposed to aspire to it. It's getting to the point where you have to pay to see Thai culture in many places. Perhaps many women in these sort of places see marrying a foreigner as the only way to improve their lives and if they find love along the way then so much the better, they can be very pragmatic on these subjects. There are so many Thai men that are unable to fulfill this requirement that they are 86ed so to speak. Of course we shouldn't generalise and I dislike the armchair judges that simply hang out in bars etc. Finally, I don't blame anyone for trying to better their lives, hell, I want a better life in the future too, it's just they've all seen paradise through the media now, not easy to convince them that the wilderness is the way forward and Buddha will comfort the faithful, that's for the mother and father. Living in the countryside here is no fun, the Thais write poetry about how hard it is. No surprise they want to escape. Cheers.

Human nature means we all aspire to a better (easier) life. If we didn`t our mothers would still be boiling the sheets in the copper on mondays followed by scrubbing the front doorstep. Only the wealthy look for the simple life because they know it will be a passing fancy which they can ditch if it gets too rough.

The title of this thread is pathetic as absolutely no one knows what "most Isaan ladies" prefer. I would think most Isaan girls (Isaan bar girls excluded) would prefer a Thai man.

Not many people can rightfully blame others that they try to escape from poverty and better their lives. Although apparently the established Thai politicians (red and yellow) do not seem to like the idea very much.

All I tried to point out is that the Thai women have a restricted choice. As a dark skinned Isaan farmer's daughter she will never ever have a change of even becoming the 6th mia noi of a well to do Thai. So if she wants to live a comfortable financially secured life her only option is a relationship with a farang. But IF a Thai man could give her the same life style I am convinced the vast majority would go Thai, not farang.

I really think that being with a farang is a sacrifice for most of the women. In the end - like being a prostitute - the money makes up for it. Even if yours might be so westernized that she actually enjoys beans on toast for breakfast! But she would prefer being in her village sitting with her family and friends in a circle on the ground eating insects. If only you would send her money every month, she would be there tomorrow.

Thought about this a little more and the word 'prefer' is an interesting word in this contex as it probably falls into the section of 'luxuries' for most of these girls. They must live in the reality that surrounds them and the cruelness of the Thai social system that does nothing to help them or their family other than to keep them down. To escape the 'system' and enjoy a modern life with luxuries often requires action such as marrying a foreigner but it is not only her that benefits but others close to her also indirectly benefit too. What they might privately prefer could be either, many girls have had bad experiences with Thai men, but as Roel implied, there are plenty of falandering drunken arsehole farangs around too. To those who think that you can't know what an Isaan, or other area, woman wants, then go live and see where she comes from for 6 months or a year, all will become crystal clear, only way to understand them. To the armchair experts, the girls in bars and soapy massage places that you talk to probably have a Thai boyfriend along with whoever they are currently 'milking'. Ever watch the parking area of a 'massage' place when it closes and seen who picks the girls up? All in all, these girls are probably just deciding what is best for them and have little time for cultural correctness and care not for any stigma from a system that considers them as dirt whilst not allowing them any dignity. No wonder more and more are willing to give a relationship with a foreigner a chance, they all know some other girl that has a good life because of it. Hard one to pin down.

Ha ha, just seen your post Roel before mine, you must have posted while I was composing mine. On my mobile and easy to miss stuff. Fair point but a mighty big 'if'. Also that idea that they would all be happier in a tin shack eating beetles if they had just enough money is getting somewhat out-dated. I'd say now they all want to take the modern lifestyle back home and have a estate house in the countryside, not to mention better education etc, and will go to long lengths to get it. We can only speculate about the situation if Thai men could sort it out, but then again, if that were true and they had it sorted here then they probably wouldn't let any of us in, so there would be no choice for the women other than to be near concubines for the Thai guys. I suppose these choices for people come about through situational neccessity, but who created the situation for them? Causality is what it's called, I think. Cheers.

English guys are number one on the farang hit list is what the original post claimed..and i can see why...there dress sense, they way they get that beer bellie to sit so nicley, the trend to wear shorts that resemble trousers speaks volumes for style...if i was a poor north east girl i couldnt go past an english guy...pool, darts preimer league..all that culture , ho and that colonial spirt, the one they dispayed in India, Sth Africa and half the known world, that can do mentality and they did it...has to appeal for sure.
