I think before all get exited that Barrys meant he receives the Knowledge package on true not the Gold which includes many HD newly encrypted channels.
Astro actually has 10 new Olympic channels although 1 is only a list of the other channels and 2 are not viewable via DB.
The workaround for True I believe will not happen soon, The encryption method is constantly recoded and causes the DB to hang regularly - the Uk has the same system and a friend views Sky via DB but complains that the picture freezes often and spoils viewing.

Result!!

True Visions came yesterday and installed 12 boxes at our apartment block. The box is a nice little piece of equipment (2000 baht) and we pay 300 baht each a month for the Gold Package.

So after all the Dreambox palava I've ended up getting a True Vision package for an extra 100 baht a month.... one is a happy man right now. :D

Roll on the football.

Edit: I'd suggest to anyone living in apartments to strike up a deal with True Visions. If you have enough people that want it you can bring the price right down for yourself.

Hmm, I hope that you have it in black and white, signed for, that it is only 300 Bht / month?
In my Condo in Bangkok there is a common distribution system, which has been there for years. For many years I used it with a pirate box. With recent changes by True I have had to subscribe. 2,000 Baht "deposit" for the box, 1,567.84 Baht / month for the Gold Package.
They had a "promotion" going where the first month was discounted, so I would be checking if this is what you have.

The school sorted it all out as it's their apartment. 300 baht comes straight off my salary per month every month. I don't know how they have done it to be honest. I do know that all the apartments are linked by a cable though as they were here drilling yesterday.

Maybe the school has people in the right places  .... I really don't know.

Typical unfathomable logic. :banghead:

I just called the True Visions helpline number. After entering several extension numbers, then my 8 digit subscriber number, which was read back to me, I eventually got to speak with some girl that sounded like she should be in Kindergarten. :?
She then reads out my subscriber number and then asks me for my "samart card" number.

WTF: I do not know what number it is, and going on the number of times I have to reboot the decoder, I do not feel inclined to remove it to look!
I just want to know:
1. what is GoldA that is listed alongside some channels?
2. what do I have to do to view Discovery Turbo, which is one of the GoldA channels?
"Oh, need samart card number"! :cuss:

Anybody know the answer?

I found out how I got the Gold package on the cheap.

The apartment block I am in is registered as one building because noone pays rent there -it's the school's housing. With this you can get up to 15 rooms off a single line thus sharing the costs. The same as if you had multiple boxes within your home. All makes sense now. It's just the same as hotels. Apartments though are all registered as different buildings so a no go for sharing a line.

Nevertheless.. 300 baht a month for Gold Package...

Yes yes... all you guys live in nice houses and all that but - I get me True Visions on the cheap.

Every cloud 'n all that...

I'd like to understand the mechanics of "the 15 rooms off of one line..." In the past you could get as many lines as you want off of a single dish if everyone wanted to watch the same channel. My understanding now is the same, and that one dish can only run two boxes capable of being tuned to different channels. Probably a State secret in all this somewhere as they don't want you to know how to use one dish for multiple independent boxes. Pete

I'm not sure Pete. All I know is the True Vision guys said to the school that they could run up to 15 boxes off the one line. Any more and the school would have to fork out the extra for a new line. I'm actually clueless to how it all works myself.

I have been away from this stuff too long now, and like everything else, the development of new technology is endless.
Basically, they will be using some form of amplifier for the sat signal, plus a system of splitters to run the signal to each room via a coax cable.
Some of the systems I had to maintain used multiple LNB`s and sat dishes feeding through a device called a "Diseq" (sp), to be able to view different satellites over the same system.

All done with electrickery!

They also have 4 dedicated channels for the Olympics - the same 4 that they created for the Euro 2012 Championships.
We also heard from our DB supplier a couple of days ago - they're presently working on a solution for True but it might take while.
We're currently able to receive the equivalent of the Gold Package for True Vision and will continue to get that free of charge until the work-around has been completed.
I think I have the same package as Barry, and I had a choice of all today's Premiership games apart from West Ham-Villa
Burnley-Bolton was also being shown.
This is the way
