England are trying to make a game of it, but with a lead of 250 and six wickets remaining for Australia, the best they can hope for is probably a weather assisted draw?

Australia declared on 265 for 6 Khawaja 101 not out Green out for 74. Khawaja's 2nd century a batsman on his top form.
England are 30 for no wicket. They need 358 runs to win extremely unlikely the best they can hope for is a draw. :banghead:

Got away with it there.... Just! Don't think our antipodean friends will be too happy though - sure they were looking forward to dishing out a 5 - 0 whitewash.

Hadn't realised we have to go back to 2010-2011 for the last Test Match win for England....

So the combined English county cricket team now move on Hobart's Bellerive Oval. Should be more like a county cricket match at this smaller ground. The injured list grows: Jos Buttler’s Ashes tour is over. The England wicket-keeper is flying home after the conclusion of the fourth Test nursing a broken finger.

That's the good news. :thumb:

Following is Cranky Ian Chappell opinion of Joe Root On Australia's Channel 9 sports show
"Joe Root is not a cricket captain, don't worry about a Test captain, he's not a cricket captain.

"Who wants the job? Ben Stokes is saying all the things to support Joe. Does he want the job? If he's got any brains he's probably going to say no because it's a poisoned chalice.

"He's the one man with the credentials to do the job. Being an aggressive cricketer doesn't make you a good, aggressive captain, but it can."

Chappell criticised England's management of its bowling attack, singling out the selection of Jack Leach, who is the only frontline spinner who has played for the tourists all series.
"Jack Leach is not a competitor," he said. "Jack Leach is not a Test bowler, he's frightened stiff being on the field."

"Dom Bess, I think wants to be there and he's a competitor. The other guys they've got to look at are [Matt] Parkinson and [Mason] Crane, because they're attacking bowlers, but England look the wrong way at spin bowling.

"They've got Leach there [and say] 'Oh, he can tie up an end and keep it tight for the others', it's rubbish. You've got to get wickets at both ends. I don't care what Test match you're playing, if you're not trying to get wickets at two ends then you're doing something wrong.

"The first thing for England is to pick their best side, they haven't got close to doing that."

5th test Australia 241 for 6 rain stopped play, at this state of play England are in with a chance tomorrow it is crucial we bowl Australia out and get some runs on the board.

You may be clutching at straws again lindos... Seems after a good start, England's bowling was faltering badly - one commentator was questioning where England were going to find 5 wickets... :(

Oh well, never say die.

Much as I hate to agree with pharvey, this match is a classic example of how Australia are so much better than England at the moment. If we had been 12 for 3 after 10 overs, we'd have struggled to get into 3 figures. The Aussies on the other hand started smacking us all round the park, scoring at 5 runs an over, and are heading for a very decent first innings total. England might be in with a chance 1) if they can bowl the Aussies out for under 300 and 2) if they can build a 1st innings lead of 100+. I wouldn't bet on it...
