Now we have positive identification 8)

The Pla Duk Rusia are actually :

Pla Duk Uey or Pla Duk Lasia or Gunther's Walking Catfish

The greedy 6.5kg example caught this morning was our source of information and a quick internet check followed :thumb:

Or anyone who just likes to chill out, enjoy some good food and chilled wine/beer, watch other people catch fish, and have a nice chat with the amiable host.

Thank you sir.

Anyway - to those interested in the progress of growth of our Pla Cohor - Giant Siamese Carp, the HHFL record was trashed AGAIN yesterday by this superb 12kg specimen.

Just look at the size of his gob

The young man who caught it, was losing a very intense fishing match with his brother- until - he landed this one

I believe it won him 100baht - me? - I'm still waiting for the commission!

Mystery solved!

My Baitman Jit and I have been arguing over the name of one of our latest species to arrive at the Lodge. I thought it was a Pla Duk Uey - he says Pla Duk Lassia. :sfight:

So - I was somewhat confused and convinced myself that it was a Pla Duk Uey - Gunther's Walking Catfish.

These grow to about 12kg and our specimens are around 8kg.

Anyway - the breeder got back to me this morning with a surprise!

They are in fact North African Catfish - introduced to Thailand and known as Pla Duk Rassia - note the L & R syndrome again 8)

Seems these babes grow to 60 kg in the right circumstances.

Herewith one caught yesterday

It looks a like a cracking day out, I'm over in HH in a few weeks for a golfing holiday. I used to fish 20 odd years ago - then the kids arrived and I gave up fishing, I'll think Ill pay you a visit.

Incidentally, the other evening back here in the UK was a program called Extreme Fishing with the actor Robson Green. He was fishing in Thailand and caught many of the fish you have at the Hua Hin Fishing Lodge. Did they film it in HH by any chance?

Below is a link to watch the program on-line (episode 7), but not sure if you will be able to get it in Thailand though.

Hi Fybo

You were right - the link does not work over here.

Also - the programme was not filmed in HH otherwise I would have known about it - more likely Ratchaburi or Bangkok.

Yes we have most of the 'big' species here at HHFL but they are not enormous yet

Although, the rate at which some of them are growing - it wont be long!

Look forward to your visit.
