The only good thing to say about any of these "accidents" is the rapid response from rescue organisations.

In this particular case I find it hard to understand how a "left rear tyre burst" caused the van to swing around as shown in the video. :?

I often see vehicles using the cycle lane going along the Klong road and never a patrol car/motorcycle in sight - and even if there was I doubt that any action would be taken

Same for the bike lane past the flyover that heads down to Pranburi. I have seen all sorts there - cars, vans, bikes, food carts and even cyclists.

There are certain places on that cycleway where you have to use it to access the trackside businesses. The businesses call you in to load. I was horrified when the way out meant driving 100 yards along the cycle track, but had no option. I felt a right dick doing so.

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT has been in the news a lot lately, not only today. All kinds of accidents, and I think a train involved in one recently.

The province is renowned for drug gangs so there may be more 'under the influence' drivers there.

Swerving pickup kills couple, their 2 children in Buri Ram

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... n-buri-ram

BURI RAM: A couple and their two young children were killed when a pickup truck crossed the centre-line and hit the family's pickup head-on in Muang district early on Thursday night.

The fatal crash occurred on the inbound side of the Buri Ram-Satuk Road in tambon Ban Yang about 6.20pm.

Pol Capt Thaweesil Srisuriyachai, of Muang police station, said emergency responders found a badly damaged white Mazda pickup up with Buri Ram licence plates overturned on the road.

The driver Theerapong Sudjarittham, 45, was lying unconscious on the road. He was rushed to Buri Ram Hospital, and later pronounced dead.

Nearby, a wrecked white Toyota Vigo pickup truck with Khon Kaen licence plates was stopped off the side of the road, the front caved-in. Three people, one a 9-year-old boy, were dead inside the vehicle. A severely injured 4-year-old boy was found in the roadside grass. He died soon after.

The four victims in the Vigo were a family - driver Veerawut Inthachak, 32, his wife Pasda Photimas and their two sons, Pol Capt Thaweesil said.

Police investigators learned the driver of the Mazda pickup truck was travelling from downtown Muang district, apparently lost control and the vehicle crossed over the centre-line, colliding with the oncoming Vigo, heading towards the town.

The investigation was continuing.

Neck-high cable sweeps sight-seeing tourists off motorcycle

Not the first time this has happened. If I recall the last one in the Northeast killed a Thai woman. :banghead: :cuss:

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... motorcycle

KANCHANABURI: Two women tourists sightseeing on a motorbike were injured when they ran into a telecom cable hanging at neck-level across a road on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Kanchanaburi-Dan Ma Kham Tia road in front of a petrol station in tambon Ko Samrong.

Christina Serma Gandia, from Spain, who was driving the motorbike, sustained a deep cut in the neck while pillion rider Ana Clara Moncada, from Argentina, suffered minor injuries.

The two women told police they rented a small motorbike to enjoy the natural beauty of tambon Ko Samrong. Their sightseeing was ruined by a cable hanging across road at the level of their necks. It swept them both off the bike and to the ground.

They were taken to Phanon Phonphayuhasena Hospital for treatment of injuries and further examination.

Police were investigating, and said they would find out which company owns the cable and was legally responsible.

Front torn off locomotive as train hits truck on crossing

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... n-crossing

NAKHON SAWAN: The front section of a train locomotive was torn off, and the driver and engineer injured, when it hit a trailer truck on a railway crossing in Phayuha Khiri district on Monday.

The accident happened about 11.30am at a crossing with no barriers near Moo 10 village of tambon Noen Ma Kok, about 3 kilometres from Noen Ma Kok railway station, Pol Capt Supawat Preechachan, a Phayuha Khiri duty officer, said.

As the Bangkok-Den Chai No.11 train approached the crossing a 10-wheel truck with a trailer cut across in front of it. The train crashed into the trailer.

The violent impact tore the front off the locomotive, which also derailed as the train came to a grinding halt.

The train driver, Kanok Jaitham, suffered a head wound, while Supakit Bangkhet, the engineer, escaped with only slight injuries.

Somwang Taokaew, 43, the trailer truck driver, told police he was going to pick up a load of soil from near Noen Ma Kok railway station for delivery to Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University.

He admitted he did not see the oncoming train as he approached and drove a cross the track.

The train had departed from Hua Lamphong in Bangkok at 7am and was heading for Den Chai in Phrae province. After a two-hour delay it continued its journey to Den Chai, pulled by a replacement locomotive.

No train passengers were hurt.

Fatal 8-vehicle pile-up at red light

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -red-light

PRACHIN BURI: An eight-vehicle pile-up at a traffic light killed one person and injured another on a major highway in Muang district on Wednesday evening.

The crash involved four big trucks, two pickups and two cars and occurred on a four-lane bypass of central Prachin Buri city.

Orapin Roongthanawut, 44, said she was slowing down her Honda City car to stop at a red light when an 18-wheel trailer truck crashed into the rear. Her car was pushed forward into a 10-wheel truck, which then crushed a pickup truck against a truck in front of it, with a continuing domino effect.

Montri Nootcharoen, the 43-year-old pickup truck driver, and his father-in-law were severely injured. Montri later died at Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital.

3 dead in Samut Prakan accidents

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -accidents

SAMUT PRAKAN: Three people were killed in two separate accidents in Bang Phli district on Saturday and Sunday, police said.

In the first accident, which occurred at about 7.30pm on Saturday at kilometre marker 9 on the parallel road of the Bang Na-Trat highway, a man and his wife were killed after a motorcycle they were travelling on was run over by a six-wheel truck.

The man was identified as Somchai Arunprapapan, 58, and his wife as Mrs Ratchanee, 55.

Chakrapong Chonyuth, 34, the truck driver, said that his vehicle was travelling towards Bang Na in the middle lane, with a bus driving in the right lane. He said he was unaware there was a motorcycle driving between them.

He suddenly felt his truck run over something, and stopped to take a look. He found the motorcycle had been crushed underneath the truck and the couple had been killed.

An investigation was underway to establish the cause of the accident.

In another accident that happened at about 4am on Sunday, a man driving a motorcycle was killed after ramming into the rear of an 18-wheel lorry in a soi leading to Wat Sriwaree Noi temple in tambon Bang Chalong of Bang Phli district. He was identified as Nathapol Kularpkhao, 33.

Praiwan Panyawan, 35, the lorry driver, said he was heading for a factory to unload goods when the accident took place.

Police were investigating.
