Timelines are out for those in Hua Hin with the virus.

Yes, the last time I looked, we were up to number 30. Problem is they are all in Thai, many are multi page and all photo files. It is too time consuming to translate for somebody who doesn't read Thai, so I'm not bothering. In a town with so many Farangs, I'd have thought multiple language timelines would be available.

So this advice from public health to close down 'entertainment venues' in 41 provinces is still not signed off:

Nevertheless, the Ministry of Public Health has proposed for the CCSA to shutdown entertainment venues in 41 provinces for 14 days, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces.

The CCSA’s committee in charge of applying restriction measures approved the measure on Thursday morning and it is now awaiting approval from Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha who will chair the center’s main meeting on Friday.

They're a bit boring now. Last one I saw is number 30. They've been all over town. I remember one in Smor Phrong (cos I live there), and dinosaur market. Another in Market Village (Santa Fe Steak anyone?).

Field hospital being set up at HHH 5. This is the building in the middle of nowhere near the 'Grand Canyon' area west of the town. For 60 beds I was told.

Therefore you have to wonder whether the covid situation is being utilised for political purposes and the continuation of the current regime is in fact the only priority..........surely Thailand deserves better

I think it is much more simple than that. As far as I have ever been able to tell these folks can do very little that makes any sense and that is at ANY level. Schools, military, police, immigration, transportation, etc. etc. Certainly not the government in and of itself.

Beginning to wish the government had had more time to prepare and maybe order (a lot) more vaccines.

Yikes. If they're running out of beds already what happens if Thailand ever has more than a handful of cases.

Doesn't seem like they're well equipped.

Is this not because Thailand is insisting that anyone who tests positive is hospitalised? In most countries those people without any complications have been quarantined at home because no country has the number of hospital beds for the numbers affected by a pandemic.

Yes, I believe you're correct, and it's unworkable if the numbers go through the roof, although they seem keen to keep building what they call "field hospitals".

Perhaps there is no trust that the person would actually stay home and quarantine, and many small dwellings in urban neighborhoods here really aren't suitable for that purpose. Let's hope they begin to look at the person, their means, dwellings, neighborhoods, and begin to allow home quarantine in many cases.

I was reading the regulations for Alternative State Quarantine and I see that if you test positive, you have to go to hospital which seems nonsense as you're already being quarantined as if you have the disease, with no personal contact with staff, disinfecting of rooms etc.
Surely it's better to leave you there and free up a hospital bed if you're asymptomatic.

I only learnt of the existence of 'Prachuap News' as my other half was reading it last night and blurted out the news about the field hospital. Then she showed me the timelines, which as BB stated is incomprehensible to the average farang. But she eventually found one in which Bluport was mentioned. An infected person visited between 5 - 7 on 2nd April.

Enough hospital beds isn't the only issue for Thailand, a lack of ICU capability is another. This was stated from the outset and one of the reasons for shutting the border asap and keeping it shut.

As for the current outbreak, it's interesting to read that some hotels and airlines have received a small number of cancellations, but they will be city folk looking for a break, but as we all know most will be heading home and staying with family. The car park at the condo I am staying at in Bkk is much emptier than normal as is the traffic on the roads, suggesting many have already headed off.

But last years fear that allowing people to head home for Songkran would spread the virus never really materialised. Lets hope its the same this year (edit- was that songkran or something else?)
