Reports say Sterling is at a 3 month low (against USD ?) so if the Baht hadn't dropped as well it may have now been about 45-46 Baht to £.

This thread has been going on since Methuzalas birth and no one has even vaguely got it right

There have been some who thought they were experts
a lot of them are either back in their own countries, gone cap in hand or just passed on
so dont worry about your lack of expertise pleng its not necessary on this thread

The point about sterling being considered safe by investors at present is due to the fact that its debt ( as large as it is) is repayable after 13.5 years whereas the likes of Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy etc have significant short term repayment dates this year and the following years.

The Market considers that the UK can safely manage its debt on this basis, but considers the debts of those paying yields of 6++% unsustainable. New UK debt yields are around 1.5%, so the difference is significant.

This does not mean the Sterling/Bhat exchange rate will improve as the Uk government wishes sterling to remain weak in the near term to promote exports and therefore growth.

The market may be wrong but this is what they perceive currently and they are the experts !!

Yes, it's back down to 49.99 on international markets. Thai banks will catch up at a slower speed as usual. Pete

Surprised nobody else has mentioned the fact that over the past few weeks, the exchange rate has dropped by over 2 Baht to the Pound - any specific reason why?

Same for the US$. Of course I thought it was the possibility and likely hood that the US will be downgraded due to inability to avoid overspend of budget limit. Government will be shut down. Not sure why Pound has dropped. Maybe because they are friends of the US. Has something happened positively with Thai economy?
