soi dogs
soi dogs
Hi, this one is probably directed at Dawn. Is there anything I can do to help the soi dogs near my home that have no fur and are badly affected by fleas, ticks etc?? Is there is a spray or powder that i can buy to try and help treat them?? Obviously depending on whether i can get near enough to them!! Some of them are pitiful and i obviously dont want to do more harm than good, so would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks.

there are just 2 many, and any vet will not be interested unless you take a dog or dogs to the vet.
while staying at a rented house cha am may/june this year my wife and i were visited by a young bitch one evening, wagging her tail, and licking our legs etc.
looking very thin and obviously had just had pups we decided to feed her.

one evening on returning from hua hin,we noticed she had gone.
so we parked up and as we were going inside, the front gate rattled and in ran mum, dad and one pup.

next day another 2 pups arrived plus 2 aunts.
I noticed one of the pups was walking strange so upon examination i found a very large tumer on its stomach.
went straight to vet huahin, paid 300 baht for the pup to stay the night and to be treated.(this turned out to be 3 days and nights at a cost of 1,000 baht.
Now i did not mind paying, but i knew the pup was still not well enough to o back to its mum in its condition,so upon talking to one of the monks at the wat huahin it was agreed he would take care of the pup.
over the next 3 wks the pup made a good recovery at a cost of 3,000 baht to the monk.
the rest of the family stayed with us until we left cha am mid jul.
Its good to hear you care about soi dogs, but once you help one it soon turns out that you end up helping them all.
not a bad thing but near impossible to unless you make it a fuul time occupation.
good luck to you on whatever you do .

Pinky, in all seriousness the best advice I can give you is to do nothing. I know it is hard but you could go on forever spend a fortune and hardly make a diffrence as there are so many of them. You would have to change the thinking of a whole nation and that sadly aint going to happen. This is however just my poinion...

Well, I think Randy is about right here. There are many reasons why not to do anything unless you're setting out on a crusade.
Amongst others, temperament can be suspect along with carrying all sorts of diseases etc. There are simply too many of them and the locals won't put them down because of religious reasons.
I'll stop there, but this can be a bit of a 'Pandora's box' topic ie open with care.
