Just joined yesterday and already finding lots of good information.

My name is Felix. My wife and I move to Hua Hin in back in 98 and bought a small bungalow in Samorprong Village and watch our sleepy little community grow. Especially in the area where our house is located. We now reside in Singapore and plan to move back someday but the problem is the lack of good schools in Hua Hin. Not sure I want to compromise my son's education just to move back.
We built our dream home in Hua Hin in 2004 and I have to admit it now feels like the biggest mistake I've ever made. I have read some encouraging news in the Hua Hin Gazette regarding the surge in land prices in Hua Hin in spite of all the political turmoil.

Hello Felix and welcome to the forum. I think all parents here are concerned about the education facilities here, but were you aware that a new school opened in the last couple of years, called Yamsaard? It is expensive but nowhere near what you are currently paying and from all reports is very well equipped, staffed and managed. I'm not sure how old your children are, but there are also some good nursery/kindergartens around here as well as what I would call Primary schools (up to the age of about 8 ); the problem is really after that age from what i can gather in terms of choice, although Bangkok has a plentiful choice. Hopefully this issue will be addressed as the demand grows for facilities and makes it a sound business proposition for whoever takes it on.

Hi Felix

Why do you think it was a big mistake. I would have thought that you built at a good time, Exchange rates better, Cost of materials half the price. Your house must be worth much more now than it was then!

Yes schools are a big problem.

Yes, I'm sure our house/property is worth much more then what we paid. The problem is that the political situation is not improving and that's got to be hurting the real-estate market. I bet there's a lot of folks out there changing their minds about investing in Thailand at the moment. My house is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. I bought a 1 rai plot at Mountain View Village II and built a 4000 sq ft house on it. Not sure how many folks are looking for such properties. I did noticed a lot more high end developments in Hua Hin lately. Only time will tell...
I haven't been back to Hua Hin in a long time. My wife goes back and forth every couple months but she mainly visits her people when back in Thailand and doesn't research anything ever.

Finally some realistic words...thank you!
I don't know how many people I have met in Hua Hin who know the true value of their property, however they have failed to get an offer in the last three years. Image

Welcome to the forum faq2mfh. If you have paid for your house then perhaps in a few years you might want to retire there. It sounds lovely. You must have had good reason to have it built in the first place... :D

Joined recently. Just moved her with my Thai wife. I'm originally from the U.S. and have been living in Thailand for two years. Renting a nice little house. Visited here about a year ago and liked how it is more quiet then Bangkok or Pattay.
Hope to get my 30 posts in soon so I can use the forum I am most interested in. TIT
