Kasikorn Bank
Kasikorn Bank
Has anyone recently opened an account with this bank? The reason I'm asking is because I opened one just over a month ago and while it only took a few minutes, the ATM card I got simply says premium member but does not have my name on it. I seem to recall from an earlier thread that the card the issue at the branch is only to see you through until your proper card arrives? If this is the case then perhaps I need to call them up?
Thanks

I opened one with this bank aswell, same deal. That card is the standard one you get and you probably paid 300 baht at the bank for it. Think that's all you get from them unless you've applied for a Visa/Mastercard, in which case there is a wait and they don't give them out too easily these days, well, at least not to us(but is slowly changing).
If you are working here and have a work permit, you might want to try opening a bank account at Krung Thai Bank as I think, if my memory serves me correctly, they have the easiest requirements to meet.
Come to think of it, I've never had a basic bank card from a Thai bank with my name on it since I've been here, so no big problem I think.
By the way, I ditched using the Kasikorn Bank because of it being too pernickety about everything, just my experience though, so I went and got one(Visa card) at Krung Thai which was an over-all better experience.

Edited for spelling

I've got bank accounts and cards with most of the banks here, with a bit tucked away in each. By far, the best banking experience I have had in Thailand (or even compared to the UK for that matter) has been with the Bank of Ayudhya.
Easy to communicate with, sterling account, personal Thai account, proper business account with professional back up and regular meetings to discuss the ongoing banking needs of my business. I get regular statements and they even help me with setting up accounts with suppliers. Most Thai owned companies are shy or not sure of dealing with farang managed companies, Bank of Ayudhya help to put them in the right frame of mind and have given my company good references as to our business practices for the past five years we have been dealing with them.
It is possible to run a proper business account with them in Thailand, but it does take a few years of sound banking practice, from both sides, before you get the correct professional help and advice you need.
I have bank cards both personally (with many banks) and business wise (with Ayudhya), none of them have any names on, just numbers.

This is a common practise for the following 2 reasons:
1 - It's cheaper and convenient for the bank to have the blank (no-name-printed) ATM cards and issue you one on the spot.
2 - Also it's more secure if you happen to loose the card, which will protect your identity, since they don't bear any branch or account numbers printed either.
I have been with Kasikorn for the last 8 years and haven't had any issues so far. IMHO especially, their WebCard and online banking is one of the best banking services in Thailand.
You can have your Thai ATM card(s) working abroad for and additional fee, can be done during the initial registration or after, you just need to ell them you need International debit as well.
Caution, it can be quite expensive to withdraw money while abroad. You will be charged additional transfer fees and are subject to the local bank's (abroad) currency exchange rates, since all the funds from Thailand are transferred as Thai Baht.
