the new price to pay in hua hin
hello hhad regulars ,
coming over for 3 weeks or more at the end of jan. jings have been in touch offering me ac tv etc for500 baht for 22 days . is that any good at the minute as far as cost is concerned?
Is hua hin dead at the moment and are prices coming down to reflect this?
51 baht to the pound at the moment , is this the new cost to hua hin?

At 500 a night who cares if the place is dead!
Seriously though yes, it was already pretty dead when I left mid December, and according to reports on here hasn't improved. Given that even after the airport closures the hostel place off SraSong Rd was still asking up to 1000 a night, 500 sounds good. But I would consider asking for the monthly rate and haggling when you get there. Might work out cheaper than paying 500 for 22 days. Keep an eye on other threads as well about GBP vs ThaiBt and tourism in general.

Hmmm, have to agree with Dtaai Mai there about the shorts! Maybe a kilt would cause more of a stir in HH, and for the right reasons?

You need the guys to give up to date bar fines advice! When I had a bar in HH it was about 250/300 or however much more the Mama San thought she could get! But no doubt inflation has had an effect.
Changs - small from 45 up. Cheapest we found recently was 45 at the Boat. On Bintabahn I'm sure most bars charge more, but there are some bar owners on here who can give exact figures. Certainly small Heines vary a lot. Anything from 60 to 90 in the bars, and much more in clubs/hotels.
BTW you got a good deal from Jings

No the baht is surprisingly strong still, despite all thats been going on. Other threads go into more detail, but I know what you mean - you would expect prices to drop to encourage more trade?
I think you've seen that to some extent with your room rate and taxi quote, but I'm afraid a lot of Thai people see less sales and want to maintain the same income from fewer customers.
Again theres constant debate about it, and hopefully some businesses, like Jings, seeing the light. Personally I think many small Thai run businesses like bars/market stalls etc just don't understand the relevance of exchange rates. Especially the pound, which these days is a pretty insignificant currency abroad.
Theres been some speculation as to whether the new Thai PM might devalue the baht. If he does I'm sure the news will appear on here straight away.
By the way - don't take Scottish notes!
